It's close, but not so, I think in part the whole promoter-different organization thing put a bit of a damper on it. But a lot of great fighters, great talent that unfortunately never materialized, and the force that was Mike Tyson makes it close.

Reminiscing about the '80's Boxing without mentioning Saad and Boza is like describing your childhood Christmas without mentioning Santa Claus or the great presents. The early 80's, especially, had so much great free network TV boxing. Without the popularity of '80's boxing, this board would probably have far less posters and traffic.
you mentioned her show (Fall Guy), but you forget to mention Heather Thomas. That poster she did was just awesome. Also, Alan Parker's Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke (most underrated actor of the '80's also left out).
You are absolutely correct! She actually puts the other Heather to shame. Shame on me. Many thanks to you my friend. Did this off the top of my head as I was 3 sheets deep. I forgot to mention 3 2 1 Contact as well as MTV if I may be so bold...
I dunno. It's my favourite era but not having lived in previous eras it's hard to say, isn't it? It was a glorious era no doubt though...

i was 14 in 1980 so it was my first full era of boxing boxing then was way bigger than it is now / boxers were superstars / there was a british revival in this era in boxing and as a result boxing was most probably the number 2 sport in the country after football with 17 million watching fights . ppv came in the uk in 1989 and with the extra channels it diluted boxing . in america its much worse viewing figure and recognition wise.
I was born in 1984 . tyson was the most famous boxer when i was a kid in the early-mid 90s.but my dad told me "casius clay" was the best. And my face was like..."who the hell is this guy?"
