Certainly a brilliant era with some truly stacked cards.

i.e The card for the Tyson-Ruddock I fight.

    Mike Tyson vs Donovan Ruddock
    Simon Brown vs Maurice Blocker
Julio Cesar Chavez vs John Duplessis
    Pat Lawlor vs Roberto Duran
    Greg Page vs Mark Young
    Bernard Hopkins vs Steve Langley
    ****** Juuko vs Gilberto Diaz

    Tyson-Mathis card involved fighters like:

    Mike Tyson
    Julio Cesar Vasquez
    Terry Norris
    Tony Tucker
    Henry Akinwande
    John David Jackson
    Keith Holmes
    Oba Carr

de la Hoya vs Quartey card involved:

    Erik Morales vs Angel Chacon
Oscar de la Hoya vs Ike Quartey
    Oba Carr vs Frankie Randell
    and Erik Esch.

90's was a great era, especially when you compare it to today.

    Today's is average imo.

I question whether guys like Martinez, Pavlik, would of get anywhere near the undisputed middleweight title back then.

Mayweather and Pacquiao are the two remaining elite fighters from that previous generation imo, and the only guys who potentially!, could get to that level, might be people like Donaire, possibly Ward if his chin holds up, but even then I dont know.

The 90s was the last great era. You could see a lot of the problems with the game and fighters coming out even then, but there was still plenty of great boxing to be watched. An Oasis compared to right now.

I wouldn't include Bowe in there. In my opinion, he only really shined against Holyfield. He got mauled by Golota and probably would have been knocked out by Hide if Herbie had any sort of conditioning. Too easy to hit and you could always picture him going down like a tree.

Well when you look at the HW picture, and you think of lesser fighters around that era, like Ruddock, Witherpsoon, Mercer, the point really hits home, as either of those could proabably of given someone like Haye something to think about.

Just a year or two ago Paul Williams was being heralded as the most feared man in boxing, and an elite P4P fighter.

This is a man who has only fought in 4 world championship fights and has lost two of them and received gifts. And this after a decade of him fighting pro!

Compare that to what Trinidad, ODLH, Mosley, Chavez, Whitaker, Mayweather, and many others did in their first 5 years as pros.

    Yeah.

I have always looked at Williams's skillset to, and thought, what does he have to offer an elite level fighter?

You look at Mayweather, Holyfield, Whitaker, and you think, these guys could potentially of won a title in their pro debut against the right opponent, as they had that much ability, then you apply that to other contemporary fighters, and you're not as convinced.
