Was the American referee fair to Amir Khan?

    I don't think the referee was that unduly biased.A single point deduction was within order.

    Apparently he called a BS knockdown against Peterson earlier.Basically it evens out and at worse the ref's incompetent .

    There were some occasions Peterson would charge in with his head, Khan would headlock him as many fighters do, and instead of the ref breaking it up and seperating them as he should've done, he told Khan to let go and let Peterson keep him on the ropes. khan was facing two men in that ring like he said afterwards. I hope he's learned his lesson. Never fight an American fighter in their hometown. Golden Boy are ****ing amateurs for letting this fight happen in DC in the first place. They just blew the Khan-Mayweather fight.

    Good post.

    In the Hatton-Mayweather fight, the very shady Joe Cortez prevented Ricky from fighting on the inside like Peterson was doing tonight.

    Ricky had no chance of beating Floyd on the outside, because Mayweather has 26" arms to Hatton's 20" arms, according to HBO before the fight started. Because Floyd had such a reach advantage, Ricky needed to get into what Teddy Atlas calls the "phone booth" to have a chance.

    People see what they want to see. Khan pushed off multiple times because he has no clue on inside fighting. He was warned and was penalized.

    All credit to Peterson but ref Joe Cooper was horrible and cost Khan the fight.

    Rafael summed it up perfectly. Peterson showed tremendous heart and determination, but Joe Cooper shouldn't have decided the outcome of the fight.

    Khan came in to this fight a lil bigheaded...even if the refs were a tad biased he should've expected it. What the hell was he thinking taking a fight in DC against a DC native. This is a huge sports market with a very loyal fanbase.. Khan should blame Goldenboy for not getting a neutral venue.

    I thought this one was close as hell, and could have gone either way. The judges did their part, but unfortunately the ref didn't! He was on Khan's ass all night, and not just with the two point deductions (which were obviously crucial). You could hear the ref constantly screaming, KHAN.. KHAN.. KHAN, like every two seconds throughout the fight.. and it can't be easy to ignore when the authority figure in the ring keeps barking at you to stop this, and stop that.

    Shame Peterson's warrior like performance is getting overshadowed by the ref controversy. Just a great fight by Lamont.. (albeit against a subpar Khan)!

    I'm on the fence about this.

    In my opinion, it's a fight. If guys get a little dirty, it's all part of the game. The ref really did not have to do anything tonight but just let the guys fight.

    However, on the other hand, i am realistic and realize not every ref is Smoger. Your gonna have ref's that will get involved. The ref warned Khan repeatedly before he took that point. Atleast over 5 times. It is what it is.
