Gunboat Smith outpointed a strangely torpid Langford in Nov 1913. A year later Langford crushed him in 3 rds.Was the first fight fought on the level? This report suggests Langford's lack of conditioning played a part in the result. http://thecomeback.com/queensberryr...day-gunboat-smith-outpoints-sam-langford.html
I think that it was Langfords condition, rather than any shenanigans, that lead to the result. Smith said that he knew that he had won the figth, when Langford took his robe off. The first Flynn fight might not have been on the level.
