Was the first Wilder-Fury fight essentially a cherrypick

...for Fury? Sure. Classic case of picking the weakest belt holder in a division to knock over. :sisi1

i remember some of the narratives around this fight, that Wilder was cherrypicking Fury

Well, in everyone's defense it had sort of become a reflexive force of habit to say that Wilder cherry-picked each opponent, because until then, he did. :deal:

In fairness, picking an off the couch, unproven, weight losing, post-retirement Fury wasn't a good look. I knew that and I was a hardcore Wilder fan then.

Even Big John told Tyson not to take the fight, he thought Wilder was going to knock him out

There is some entertainment in watching people flock to the safe abode of revisionism.

Perhaps we should revisit all those experts who were convinced Wilder was going to starch Fury.

Deontay Wilder knew what he was doing picking a Tyson Fury who had just lost ~150lbs (10+ stones/62+kg).

He did indeed get a Tyson Fury at half-mass but even that was too much for him and he was lucky to be gifted a draw. What a joke.

Yeah, oh how things change!

It was actually the Fury decision which turned me off him. That and as I started boxing myself, and watching more guys. I found I don't like his style, or his attitude(I never liked that) and that he ducked almost everyone in the division for 4 years.

No. It was just a way to discredit him as a possible win for Wilder, the same reason why some knuckleheads were claiming that he was "washed up" or "spent" going in to the rematch.

he was coming from being 400lb, drug depression, and had 2 nothing fights

many people were saying that Fury was going to get starched and wasn't ready for the fight
