No. This was just another case of a Scotsman being too good and powerful for his English opponent. But really, it amazes me to see some people think there was nothing funny about that. At the very least it looks like someone knew before the fight that Cook's back was ****ed and bet accordingly. That scenario does not necessarily imply anything dodgy or bent though.......
nicky cook is a disgrace if some of you knew the facts behind this gamble and who was bettin against him you would be equally shocked i highlighted this yesterday afternoon on here and even emailed dunky informing him long before the story broke as my mate who is a trader for a large bookie let me know what was going on ricky burns deserves credit for the way he handled the situation and hopfuly will get some live opponents now to provide him with a real test on the world stage that would reward all his hard work and commitment
fighting someone who isn't either a) ranked over 100 b) an area level fighter from a country where boxing is banned c) crippled with a bad back
Cooke knew his back was ****ed beforehand, he told jonny nelson( think it was him)earlier in the day, he said it just after the fight in the studio. Im gutted for burns, he is a credit to boxing( not his fault about who he has fought, and it is early days yet for him)he seems a genuine honest down to earth bloke, never seen a bloke smile so much. As for the betting, seems something as gone on, dont really know enougth about gambling
I think there's a good chance that the fix was in, but it just went wrong with the very legitimate injury. The odds coming in so severely for a specific round stoppage is very, very suspicious. I don't blame Burns, I blame Cook, for both the fix and coming in with a bad injury.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYNwVSJfVhQ[/ame] He didnt even get hit !!! Least Burns didnt get all WWF on the mic
I don't think it was a fix in the most obvious sense of a dive. The most logical situation and what seems to have happened is some people have got wind off Cook injury and just how bad it was and decided to make some money and bet on Burns early. That snowballed as these things usually do and you have a lot of big money being bet on the early stoppage. Cook clearly was not fit to be in that ring last night, I wonder if the injury has reoccured in the last couple of days because surely he would not have passed a medical otherwise. He's been brave and wanted to fight on and people knowing about the injury and that he wouldn't last have made a few quid off the bookies.
Mostly in the betting thread since Friday and via a PM. Obviously I won't divulge the PM info unless Gench himself decides too. Take a quick look through his post history and there's a few posts about it
I was sat next to all the Burns fans last night and for the fight i mingled in with em and was asking them what they make of that and they were all sayin that it was fixed something about a betting scandal. ****s knows though, waste of 50 quid last night, was poor. P.S Billy i asked Ricky to tell u to come and see me, he said he was going to but looks like he didnt.
feel sorry for burns after last nights mockery, put in a full camp and whipped himself into shape all for nothing, have to say there is a few people with didgy glasses on here, i got a txt about 5.30 pm saying get money on burns early stoppage as cooks back is ****ed, so basically hes shamed boxing massively and got in the ring just for a payday, i really hope he doesnt get a penny of his purse as hes gave boxing a massive black eye with his antics last night
