Was the Linares - Demarco fight stopped too early?

I was at the staples center in the cheap seats. Obviously Linares was taking a beating but I noticed the last two punches Demarco threw, Linares slipped cleanly. I also know Linares was way ahead.

Linares didn't complain, and neither did his corner. It was done.

Agree. Why let him take more damage? Good stoppage.

I couldn't see any of that because of my seats.

No, Linares was hurt and gushing. He also didn't help himself any in failing to initiate any clinches.

I think it was stopped a bit early. He did cleanly slip the punches right before the stoppage, but he was leaking like a faucet. In the same breath, I also don't think Linares was answering the next bell. It was a good stoppage.

He sealed his own fate with the bouncing. He lost to a less skilled opponent due to bad management of his gas tank and that cut from sparring Pac.

Blood was just too much. Save it for another day.

    Good stoppage.

You look closely at that last round. He took some viscious shots. He was about out on his feet, and he probably couldn't see.

I thought at the time that he could have survived to the final bell since the 11th was about over, but if Freddy and Linares himself aren't protesting it I sure won't.

Agreed. Linares would have most likely come out for the 12th only to get hammered some more. DeMarco was determined to leave everything in the ring, whereas Linares was tired, hurt, and the blood was compromising his vision. It would have been an incredibly long three minutes.

For those of us who watched HBO's broadcast, they had the camera zoomed in tightly in enough that you could see what concussive effect DeMarco's left hands were having on Linares. He was getting rocked badly and could barely keep his hands together in a vague semblance of defense (which DeMarco was smashing through anyway).

It was a shocking turnaround, and a decent stoppage call.

Sometimes being live at the venue gives you a better perspective than the home audience, and sometimes it can limit what you're able to pick up on.
