A trip's not a slip, though, so it's an apples and oranges comparison. If the punch lands before the slip, even if it's not 100% flush, I've seen that called a knockdown. If he slips immediately after the punch, the slip doesn't cancel that out even if he wouldn't have been knocked down otherwise.

If the slip happens first, then he gets grazed, it's a slip and no knockdown. Timing is everything here.

The problem is that from where Cole is standing and even in the replays we see, it's not 100% clear which happens first and it boils down to a judgment call, which as I said before, is alot harder to make seeing it once in real time from a bad angle in Cole's shoes than what we can do. I never thought I'd defend Cole at all, but there ya go. I wouldn't have had a problem with the call being made either way, but one needed to be made sooner from him.

I have a feeling that if it was the otherway around, the ref would have scored it as a KD for dirrell.

And people on this site would be somhow defending it, Dirrell sure is popular on this site

He looks off balance, but Dirrell did go down as a result of a punch.

Well, your not speaking for me. I see your point tho. I have also seen this happen too. Not that it makes it right, but what goes around comes around. Meaning, the Miranda vs Abraham fight. If you have seen it, then you know who should have won that fight.

Look at his leg, it seemed to hydroplane on the slippery mat.

I thought that way until I saw a gif, which showed miranda clearly and intentionally headbutting abraham in the jaw when they were tied up in a clinch, **** that *******

The only judgement call is whether or not the ref thinks the punch or the slip caused the KD. Unless you think Dirrell would've went down from that punch regardless of the slip, there's no argument here. C'mon, you guys should've watched enough boxing to know this.

He wouldnt have went down if it wasnt for the punch. So the punch caused him to go down

the slip caused him to be a bit off balance, the punch caushed him to go down

just like in the earlier knockdown, abrahams leaning back caused him to be off balance, the punch caused him to go down

No it is not. This is not rocket science. You are seriously over analyzing this. You won't find one competent ref who would look at that replay and say that should've been rulled a KD. Even from the other side of the ring, Cole could see Dirrell's feet sliding from underneath him.

All those KD calls were tough - AA's in the ropes after being off balance and pushed/slapped by AD's wirst, AD being down after a hell of a shot of AA but also some leg contact, and this one where a jab landed around the same time as the slip happened.

I would also like to see the rules... and wouldn't like to have to make the calls in a split of seconds like Cole had to. Having said that, he's an incompetent dumbass if you are generous to him, and corrupt if you are into conspiracy theories. Either way he should NOT get any major fight to referee.

I can't believe you just posted this. There's no reason for us to even debate this any longer.

Dudes foot began to slide like he was on a slip-n-slide, all the while he's standing on a wet painted logo. It's pretty obvious.

Its a judgment call, i thought it was a slip when i saw the fight, from the angles of those gifs, it looks like a knockdown

fighters get offbalance then hit, and called for knockdowns alot. Your acting like it never happens, its a judgment call
