Completely agree. I'd go so far as to say it wouldn't even get as far as the highlighted. It would be a monumental cherry on top of a great career and revered for eternity.

I think this is a really good way of summarizing it. Vitali fought hard and really well, but he lost. Nothing controversial about it, really.

He went out of his way to rematch both men who knocked him out and fought the likes of Holyfield, Tyson, Tua, and Ruddock. Lewis had flaws, but the last thing in the world you could call him is a "coward". I would bet any amount of money you wouldn't tell him that to his face in an alley.

He must be impressive to call an undisputed heavyweight champion a coward.

I agree with this. I think maybe one more round was in order. But it couldn’t be allowed to go to long. Wouldn’t want his face getting ripped off.

On a side note as a young man I was annoyed Lennox didn’t rematch him but when I got older realized it was the right move

Lewis has money, a beautiful wife, and children. How is he a coward because he wanted to retire at 39 years old rather than give a rematch to the younger and fresher fighter that he just defeated? Some people just hate certain fighters and want to hang Ls on them after they were past it. Well, you don't get to hang an L on Lennox. He retired 42-2 and avenged both defeats he suffered.

Didn’t rematch Vitali, Mercer, and Bruno. Seems like pattern behavior to me.

He did fight the best, however, unlike Holmes.

    Facts:
    - Vitali was better at scoring
    - Vitali has 60 stitches
█Lennox Lewis said before the fight that it was his last fight in his career, no metter how it ended (win, lose, or draw)█

He didn't lose to them! He rematched and beat the only two men that beat him.

It was enormously controversial on this forum, though I personally never understood why.

Vitali's face was a crimson mask. It would have been
Because some people dislike Lennox and want to hang the big L on him when he was past it. Alas it was not to be.

Don’t waste my time. He never gave a rematch to anyone who lost competitively.

He did get a rematch for every fight that involved something other than his win column.
