Was there anything fishy in McCallum-Toney II and Marquez-Barrera?

Both excellent and close fights. But the judges had odd scores and the refs had strange moments in both of them.

McCallum-Toney II: I had this as a close but clear victory for McCallum. But two of the judges had the astonishing 117-110 in favour of Toney. I can't for the life of me see where that score was coming from. The third had a more reasonable 114-114. I was also a bit surprised that McCallum immediately got docked a point for a behind the back slap. No warning, a straight deduction for a pretty harmless foul.

JMM-Barrera: A very close fight, could have gone either way IMO. But two of the judges had Marquez winning by 5 points and one by 9! There's also the strange instance when the ref ruled a perfectly clear KD as a slip.

Has anything been hinted that these fights were decided beforehand?

I think many fights are decided beforehand. Check the scores of Tyson/Douglas before the knockout.

Yeah. The scores in McCallum-Toney II gave me the same feeling. One that seemed more or less reasonable (and obviously hadn't been bought off) and two very questionable, to say the least.

Judges are always told to vote for the house fighter, and besides being wine and dined, they rely on getting work from the same promoter again

Marquez-Barrera was the closest and most difficult to score fight that I have EVER seen, there were so many rounds that I just had no idea how to score (this is supported by the spookily similar Compubox numbers reported by either man), so yes, I do think the official cards were extremely suspect.

I don't know why, but marquez-barrera looked completely different live than it did when I watched it on tv later in a way no other fight I have seen did. I was rooting for Barrera but felt like I had nothing to support that during the fight, and I turned to my friend, rooting for Marquez, and I said, wow, Marquez won that fight big.

Later, I watched it on TV, and I had Barrera winning it, and not just in the few late rounds where I thought he did OK when I watched it live.

Every other fight I've seen later on TV has looked identical to my perceptions live, like Pac-Morales I, a clear two round edge to Morales.

Live, it looked like Barrera was not throwing enough and being backed up by Marquez constantly. On TV, you could see he was making Marquez miss and landing sharp shots, but the fight looked COMPLETELY one sided live.

Of course very hard to know. But King involvement combined with questionable acting from both judges and ref could be a clue...

Don't know if King was involved in these fights, though.

Ok. Interesting to hear. The HBO commentators leaned towards Barrera, though.

oh king is ASSUMED to have bought judges in most of his fights. not robberies in the obvious sense but joke fights like de la hoya/trinidad where they might have been close enough to be considered legit by some

barrera/marquez was meant to launch marquez as the marquee mexican with a win over the last active great of the era in babyface. with morales gone, it was up to barrera to be the stepping stone for jmm and a passing of the guard. i scored it barrera and by no means did marquez look bad: MAB was just plain better

Do anyone view that decision as legit? Perhaps the most blatant robbery I've seen. It's like Whitaker had lost the decision to Chavez and Lewis to Holyfield instead of getting draws.
