****in' Ayala's rep has been living off his KO win over Epps for over 25 years....... Epps was nobody special and Ayala was merely being hyped.... He did have some talent to brawl / punch, but his skills were average..... Ayala blew-it hard.......

Spare me....... Please......... Ayala was a bum who fought bums and made his rep prior to '83 off of bums....... Who the **** is Ayala's biggest name opponent? I'll tell you---Yory Boy Campas from 2000....... Ayala was way past it, but that is his biggest name on his resume...... And let us screw all the bull**** about his fabled sparring session with Pipino Cuevas when Ayala was only 14.... Who cares????

Cuevas cared, everybody that saw it cared, everybody who was a boxing fan cared. That enough?

The odd thing was Ayala was a complete gentleman and soft spoken man outside of the ring. He was a complete gentleman. Drugs, alcohol and a hurtful past pushed him over the edge.

Sure , a couple come to mind...
Mike Tyson-He should have held on to the belt at least until the mid 90's if he'd kept Kevin Rooney around.

Andrew Gulota- A complete moron who should have beaten Bowe twice and he had the size and skills to hold on to the belt for a while.

Yep. Made me sick when he went to prison. He was so damned intense in the ring, a monster.

I would'nt go as far as saying that he was the greatest waste of pugilistic talent, but a wasted talent all the same. I read somewhere that during his famous sparring session with Cuevas, pepino was heard muttering to himself "increible" while ayala was taking it to him.

Obviously you didn't see his fights or read anything written about him at the time.

El torito is the most known but there are a lot of stories similar or worst than this one. I remember a guy from my gym that was the best prospect in the middleweight division and don king people told him that after a couple of more fight he was fighting for the championsip. But he used to fight in the streets all the time beating up people robing and just shooting people for the heck of it. Well it caught up to him and he was send to jail for 300 yrs without ever losing a fight or getting to fight for the title. Another guy needed to win one more fight and he would represent PR in the central american games he was just 17 with over 150 amateur fights. But he also when to jail for murder for 26 yrs and in jail he murder someone else and now he will never come out.

    :hat
