It was an almost identical situation to Chisora and Haye at the pre fight press conference of the Larry Donald and Riddick Bowe fight. Was there threats of life bans etc at the time? I think its just the media telling everyone that we should condemn them and call them a disgrace, so everyone goes along with it. There's been plenty of out of ring punch ups and press conference riots between boxers its nothing new.
