Was Tommy Burns a better fighter than the credit that he’s given?

So another poor shot at Fitzsimmons legacy? This time combined with shot at Frazier? You never disappoint ;)

Burns is a fighter I’d like to learn more about. I think I might try to see what books are out there on him because I always enjoy reading about fighters from this era. He and Marvin Hart just kind of blend together in my mind and are probably both underrated/overlooked.

So has better wins as a heavy than Frazier’s over Ali,Quarry, Bonavena, Ellis, Bugner and Foster?
    Can you name them?

He was a good fighter, a great fighter.

Not really a heavyweight, and shouldn't be ranked as an outstanding heavyweight.
But for his size, 'pound for pound', he was really good.

Since both he and O Brien were inside the lhvy limit Burns could justifiably have claimed that title too. Cracking little fighter.

Look, I like Tommy Burns, he looks good to me on film and he was an active champion unlike some of the era. At 168 pounds I’d be fascinated to see how he would do against the super middleweights of the modern era.
However to try to put his heavyweight wins against that of Frazier and claim superiority is simply crass stupidity.
