tommy was beating rays ass before the stoppage in the first fight he was ahead on all the cards, tommy was outboxing ray for the best part of the fight. ray refused an immediate rematch and for the next 7 years tommy was calling ray out to no aviel and when they fought in 88/89 the judges stole the fight from tommy.so given all this p4p was lennord better then hearns, hones
Ray Leonard overcame Hearns when they did fight, and he was the full package whereas Hearns was missing a chin. Ray Leonard easily for me.
yeah like he said... it was his chin, but regardless... hearns is my all time favorite fighter...chin aside he's was a fighter worthy to be called a monster
Of course. Tommy Hearns is an all time great fighter, but he gets all the credit he deserves on here whereas whenever Ray Leonard is mentioned it's either to say he ducked Aaron Pryor or that he was a cheat. Bottom line is, Ray Leonard was the best fighter during the fab four era.
And Hearns could have done less. The man went on for too long. Sugar Ray Leonard doesn't owe any of you anything. He stopped fighting when he felt it was right, but he still has a resume and skillset worthy of top 10 p4p..in my opinion.
Sometimes its not just about skill if the boxer with greater skills always won the landscape and results of many a great fighter or fight would be quite diffrerent sometimes being the greater fighter is what will tip the scales.
Ray Leonard was and still one of my favorites fighters of all time. He was the complete package. The flurry of punches he gave Hearns in their first fight around the 8th round its something I still talk about, simply priceless!!! And I agree with this 110%. Ray was the BEST of the four, hands down. PBF couldnt hang with Ray in his best night.....
Leonard was the superior fighter - and I'm a bigger fan of Hearns. I followed these guy's careers from start to finish and while Hearns was great, Leonard was a cut above.
This content is protected ? I'm a big Hearns fan, but Leonard was the greater fighter in that he had more rounded ability.
This is my postion also. The difference between a winning KO and leading on the scorecards is about 20 places on my ATG list.
I think the fact that Leonard was losing on the scorecards and came back late to KO Hearns is why he's greater. He had the heart of a lion. You could never count him out and he just found the way to win, always. That said, Hearns did deserve a rematch and even Leonard conceded that Hearns won the second fight.
Ray might have the better record, overall. But yea, I think they were even as far as fighting ability. Ray really never carried his power well...Tommy could knock out cruiserweights.
