Was tonight proof that a pre margarito Cotto would have beaten Floyd?

Seeing how cotto has lost speed and endurance over the years, not to mention the physical/mental ware and tare of the beatings he has sustained, (we can all concede he's not what he was)

Was anyone else convinced that the Cotto who went into the Margo fight would have beaten Mayweather?

He would have been able to step on the gas in those mid to late rounds when he was getting to floyd but for stamina reasons had to lay back.

He would have been a touch faster, went to the body more, and had the mind set of a man who's will would never have been broken.

Great performance by Mayweather tonight, and as usual great timing, retiring while Cotto was peaking and then fighting at the perfect time. Watch him do the same thing to Pac. I can't even hate, the guys a ****ing boxing genius in all facets of the game in and out of the ring.

No. Cotto can't beat Mayweather. Now if you want to go with Pre Margarito then you have to take a few years away from Floyd as well. Floyd is not in his prime either. He is on the back end of his prime.

No. Prior to Margarito/Cotto I, Mayweather would have been still been faster than a pre-Margarito Cotto.

Ppl always do this they only focus on the opponent yet forget that Mayweather would be 5yrs younger as well and the fight would be at 147.

Plus its arguable that Cottos experiences with the Margarito and Pac fight have made him a better fighter.

Only thing that we could probably say for sure is that it would be a good fight any yr.

It's proof that anytime Floyd is in with a quality opponent he size, he looks beatable. Any of the top guys at 147 that Floyd ducked would have given him very tough fight - Cotto, Margarito, Mosley. I would have picked Mosley to beat him at around 2007/2008. Cotto looked half his prime tonight, and still gave him all the trouble in the world.

Yep, 140lb definitely could have won. You can't tell me current Cotto is more suited.

No. Hard to imagine any scenario when Cotto could've beaten him.

Cotto who went life and death with Torres, Corley and Ngoudjo and got outboxed for stretches by malignaggi who fought a closer fight against cotto then coto did against may tonight does not beat a prime mayweather with his legs and power at there best.

    No just no

Pedro Diaz had a big effect too. I never seen Cotto fight like he did tonight. He did an excellent job with Cotto and is one of the best trainers in boxing

No. this cotto is better than 'margarito cotto'. cotto is mentally strong. he became better after a defeat that many would've been destroyed from. and losing to pacquiao in a fight he was still able to compete in despite being weight drained like hell, gave him all the confidence in the world when he finally got a fair fight. hats off to cotto. as a true a warrior as ever was in the ring.

Cotto who struggled with Mayorga, just did... yeah. Goes both ways.
