Underrated against some fighters, overrated against others. Nowadays he deserves to be rated on a par with most of the other 1980s alphabet Hw champs.
It's funny to me that he beat Page and Pinklon. Everyone seems to agree that he was worse than both, but having those two wins puts him right there with whomever is below Holmes and Tyson in the 80s.
Not a top 50 ATG at heavyweight, but good enough to make the top 100. Is he underrated? No. He's best remembered for losses. Did not win more than one round vs Holmes. Ko'd in 2 by Tyson. Best wins were Thomas, Green, and beating Ali in his last fight.
That's the reason why I wonder if he's underrated. In addition to those three wins, he also defeated fairly decent versions of John Tate and Greg Page. He was only stopped twice in 61 fights by big punchers and took a prime Holmes 15 rounds during a time when nobody else was.
Canadian Jamaican if that helps. Also, many people might not know this but Berbick was sent down for **** at the same time Tyson was. I think their court cases were running around the same time.
I didn't know that. I know he was murdered a few years back but before that the last thing I heard about him was him fighting with Larry Holmes in the streets with Holmes chasing him and jumping off cars and aiming kung-fu kicks at Berbick. LOL!
Berbick.deserved that dropkick, if it was me id have stamped on his head. He claimed Larry Holmes wife had ruined his marriage because she was a prostitute. insulting another mans wife. Tut tut tut. Trev always was a bit of a character, during the Tyson fight he stuck his chin out to Mike and during the Holmes fight he was shouting "come on chump, i ain't Ali" (ironic). The girl he ****d was a babysitter, he taunted her aftewrads saying go on report me, no one will believe you. (he was wrong)
sonny liston probs by forced overdose loads of "black hw" champs in the 19th century must have been murdered, as was the thing at the time in America.
if he was killed on purpose, yes. evidence suggests he was accidentally shot, so its manslaughter or something else, but I am no law expert.
