I don’t think so for either. Tyson and Young were both extremely good fighters but never thought of them as being the best at any point.

I pick prime Tyson to destroy Marciano, johnson, dempsey, Riddick Bowe and prime larry Holmes. I pick him to beat Liston to be honest, i pick Tyson to stop Joe Louis and himself (Tyson) did too. It is all about styles. Joe Frazier i think that would get stopped probably by tko 3 knock downs because Tyson was an explosive fast starter. The guys that i pick to beat him with condifence are the next.
    1. Prime George Foreman, no one would beat Prime Tyson in the same fashion and would make it look easy.
    2. Prime Ali beats Tyson by ud but this would be competitive, styles.
    3. Evander Holyfield
    4. Maybe Vitali klitscko in his peak and lennox Lewis.
    5. Tyson Fury has a very realistic chance.YES

Agreed. I think Holy would have risen to the challenge any time he fought Mike.

Not to take away from the unquestionable conqueror that Mike was in the 80s.

I agree to disagree in regard to prime Holmes, Larry was only after Louis and Ali as the Greatest in the division, and I'm far from alone in this opinion. However, I respect yours.

The problem with Fury is...Mike was a FAR better finisher than Deontay. Once Fury was down, even if he got up Mike would have knocked the living crap out of him in my opinion. Mike would have finished what he started, though he wasn't quite the puncher Deontay is.

I can see Fury winning a couple of rounds. To me the wipe out would be inevitable, we'd all just be guessing the round.

To be completely honest, I should mention I'm not exactly a fan of Fury. ;)

    with all respect.
Deontay wilder could hit the chin of Fury with full power because he is 6'7 not a 5'11 midget.

Are you sure? When he faced Tyson Holyfield said Mike no longer had the power and the speed of his prime. What does that tell you?

Uh, Holyfield was UNQUESTIONABLY past his prime and had been beat by second-rate Michael Moorer and knocked silly by Bowe before that.

When i read this thread i wanted to beated you to the ground and make you bark like the dog you wish you were decent enough to be....but after reading this....the way you put it...its just the kind of outside the box genius i appreciate

Jimmy Young with wins in 1 year over a prime foreman,Lyle,Norton and a rumble in jungle-thriller in manilla grade muhammad Ali.....and just a yr or so before a draw with earnie shavers and another win over lyle...i think its a question worth asking on a forum

U r Correct Jamal, although a little inaccurate. I think the great wins were spread over a few years and Ali was far from manilla. But Jimmy beat the best, although in some fights the judges didn't give him the win. Gotta love Jimmy young!

You know, Jimmy Young really was an excellent fighter. It's interesting to me more people don't put him up against Holmes in '77, 78.

I don't think he could have beat Larry, though.

He was clamouring for a Holmes fight in that 76 and 77 timeframe. it was a logical fight and a nice regional fight that could have sold easily. But Larry was not a finished product and was busy with the C grade guys.

Actually jimmy young made happy a lot of fighters because he made that Foreman retired. Guys like Norton,Cooney, cobb, shavers, ocassio, berbick,
weaver, tate etc would **** on the trunks with Foreman around

Great posts and a great thread...food for thought...how different would history be if foreman carried on through 78-85...or even if he came back in say 1980 or 83.....although its before my time i have an old boxing magazine from 1983...where theres a special on foreman and his work as a preacher...so it seems the boxing media still had an eye on him...
