Fought ancient Wlad, fought never that good Wilder 3x, then lost to Usyk. That can't be all he ever accomplished can it?
Good just not as good as people thought. His best two wins are old Wlad and Wilder who arguably sucks.
I trust Usyk's opinion when he says that Tyson Fury is the best he has ever fought. Losing by just a couple of rounds over two fights to an ATG does not diminish Fury at all.
I don't think you can diminish his accomplishments by simply saying he was no good. He has some good wins - especially in the context of the time - and displayed some impressive skills, especially powers of recovery. I think the issue is that he announced himself the best of his generation and an ATG ... And some fans were too quick to annoint him those titles before he had actually proven it. So what you're seeing now is the comedown from the talk Fury failed to live up to - and from the fans who believed it
I've neverr been a Fury fan but I think Fury moves great for such a big guy and he does have remarkable recovery skills. I think had Fury not gone off the deep end and rematched with Vlad as their contract stipulated, that Vlad would have beat him.
Yes, when he rises to the occasion he is extremely good Uysk beat an extremely dangerous fighter in his last 2 fights Furys 1 problem was taking too many soft touches between hard fights and fighting the same guys But that was a very good heavyweight last night that got beat by a better one I
Wilder is a good win imo. People seem to have forgotten how dangerous Wilder was and how potent his right hand is. Navigating 12 rounds having to avoid that thing is no easy feat and I suspect plenty of great HWs would have been felled by it, especially if they fought Wilder 3 times. Wlad though very shopworn and suffering from personal issues was still Wlad. A huge puncher and one of the best technicians HW boxing has ever seen yet was thoroughly dismantles by Fury. Then you have the handful of HW contenders Fury has dispensed of like Chisora, Wallin, Pajkic, Wach, Whyte, Cunningham, or Schwarz. Not an amazing list of scalps but enough to get him into the HOF without consternation from hardcores.
Yes he was and still is good Usyk is just better. Anyone who says otherwise is just going off results based analysts rather then actually watching the fights.
This is what I think. We still think Fury is good today. In 10-20 years no one will think Fury was ever good.
