The facts are Tyson couldn't maintain it, it had to end at some point. His reign is very respectable by HW champion standards. He got beat by the better fighters on the night.

He was actually very fortunate to have been able to fill his boots financially and legacy wise in the feeble era between Holmes being past it, and the emergent era of the brilliant Holyfield and the skilled giant powerhouses of Lewis, Foreman MK 2, Bowe and a few others (EG Mercer). If he was 20-23 and prime in say 1990-1992*--there's no way he'd have been the dominant HW force and remembered the same way today. *Prison notwithstanding obviously and even with Cus and Rooney still on the scene.

no, the fear factor wasnt necessary when an opponent was ktfo on the floor. You are just making it about fear to belittle the guy, since you cannot in any way contrive your heroes to come barely close to what tyson did. But you should note that it was likely what he did do that helped cut him down so early.

its about too much too young and not being mature to cope.

If you think for a moment that early starting teenage versions of Lennox, Wlad, Joshua etc could have coped with facing unifying the title over the forthcoming months and not come to ills, then ...just no, man. kid Lennox would get bowled out during contention, laddie Joshua would have trouble with gatekeepers, young Wlad would not even get into the top twenty. What I can say is that each three of these guys would be more likely to handle coming back from that setback, theyhad better longevity.

The only two men who have come close to tysons early start in the whole of HW history were louis and ali, its no coincidence that they were the two best with the heads for both bright starts and long careers.

It's clear that you're both very ignorant and very bored.

He'd of had a longer prime and win streak if Cus lived longer. Cus' death really affected Mike.

Bang on post. Tyson at age 16 was winning the western massachusetts golden gloves title and heading on towards regionals if not for disqualification. And when I say winning golden gloves and other high-end AM tourneys and fights, he was knocking grown men the **** out. At 16.

Nobody is born with perfect tens across the board in terms of ability and mental makeup. He had an incredibly tough childhood and then went through even more/worse later in life before even winning a title starting with Cus dying. I have a hard time believing anyone but the two named in the post I quoted could have battled forward as good or better than before after going through what he did.

That in itself is the truth - it is not easy to house in one man the mindset to start brightly in poverty , maintain it AND finish bright too with all the trappings of wealth and success. They require completely different motivations. To house them both requires character development and a mind that can adapt well to changes in lifestyle, accepting new motives that might have once revolted them and demotivated them when young. Tyson had developed one mindset to excel when young, but he perhaps didnt know yet how to adapt it when all the trimmings of a new life came along. Not many 20 year olds do.

Tyson carried that aura of fear right until his last fight.

Cus was the one person I believe he truly trusted when he died he didn't have that guiding light to follow
