Some of you all need to watch some of Tyson's documenteries. He flat out states he hardly trained for the Douglas fight and many people who were around him at the time have colaborated the story over the years.

tyson hit douglas with everything that was knocking out everyone else. douglas was just not going to lose on that night. tyson was not prepared physically or mentally for this 42-1 underdog to survive his money makers.

Even though the Douglas that showed up that night was a hell of a fighter, Tyson was undertrained. he didnt bother with head movement and trying to set up combinations. he was just looking for one big punch. And his corner in that fight was inept.

I just re-watched the fight last weekend and I doubt a fit Tyson would have won that fight. Buster fought a perfect fight, no fear, distance, jab, combos and hold when close. Please don't take away from BD's performance.:good

Even if Tyson wasn't in his zone, you've just got to give Douglas credit imo, all of the credit though, because that's Tyson in the heart of his prime, and he performed so so well. He battered him.

I don't think so. Prime Lewis wouldn't have the disadvantages that Tyson had. No way Dougles would be able to pick him apart from the outside the way that he did with Tyson because Lewis was a master of shredding buys up from the outside.

Tyson was busy banging jap bitches. He was about as popular as godzilla to those people. None the less, Tyson barely trained for that fight, and it showed. Even so, he almost knocked Buster out with a vicious uppercut in I believe the 8th round. While the count was a little long, Douglas deserved the win that night. He was at his physical and mental peak that night, and taught Tyson a lesson in the process.

Buster won because he had perfect timing. Nothing more, nothing less.

Obviously anything can happen on the night, but literally speaking, i'd pick Lewis over Douglas every time.

Tyson is empirically a better boxer than Douglas. If Tyson had been properly trained, motivated, etc. he would have smoked Buster. It was just a matter of the end of a very protracted decline for Tyson and the night of his life for Buster.

Douglas was under trained and mentally out of it due to personal problems.

He would have beat Tyson a lot worse had there been a rematch.

Fair enough. Though Lewis had his off nights as well. I can't see glass chinned Rahman or the average skilled McCall knocking out Tyson with an overhand right from left field. Tyson would of destroyed both men in and a little out of his prime.

I understand your logic but the consensus seems to be that Douglas turned all those attrocities in his life at the time into positives, in terms of fight preparation.

I'll remember that for the next thread on this subject. Should be here in a couple of minutes.
