Tyson lost straight up. No excuses. He just got his ass kicked.

No way, a prime tyson KO's Douglas within 10 rounds. Heavily under-trained Tyson did KO Douglas in the 6th I think it was. Douglas was on the canvas for well over 10 seconds. If Tyson was fit he'd have finished him no prob.

Just like Lewis got knocked out by one punch by two different oppenents in and around his prime. **** happens to the best of them, every dog has it's day.

Sure Lewis had his off nights, but the question was "Prime Lewis" Which I took to mean that Lewis would not only be in his prime but at his best, not on an off night. If he came in underprepared there is a very good chance that version of douglas beats him. If he comes in focused like against Tua, Rahman (2nd time), Grant or any of the other times when he felt threatened or like he had something to prove, he beats any version of douglas IMO

I agree with you there. If Tyson was say the Tyson that fought Spinks in 88 or Berbick in 86, Tyson would of walked right through Buster. ****, even mentally out of it Tyson had him down and almost out in the 8th. If the round was 20 seconds longer Tyson would of probably finished his man and the Buster upset would of never happend.

If the round was 20 seconds shorter Tyson would have never landed that shot and it would have been a complete shutout.

Fighters have off nights and we can talk about what might have been a lot (hell that's one of the main things we all do here). Who knows you may be right, a different version of Tyson may have won that fight but we still have to give Buster his credit. He beat a man that many thought was unbeatable and did it in impressive fashion

Tyson seemed to stop throwing comibinations even before that fight. Even in the Bruno fight, he seemed to be just loading up. IMO, it was clearly a steady progression downward for Tyson rather than a instant slide.

So, Douglas got him at a good time but deserves credit cause guys like Bruno couldn't take advantage at all.

Mike Tyson stopped training properly when Kevin Rooney stopped being his trainer. After the Spinks fight, it was all going downward for Tyson !!!!

I see your point. Though Lewis was an undefeated fighter and gold medalist in 94 when journeyman McCall knocked him out with one punch. Tyson at least put up a fight and lasted 10 rounds with similar caliber oppenent. Buster even beat McCall back in 89.

The only point I'm trying to make is that Tyson was not himself that night and did not prepare for the task at hand, not to mention having a corner full of dumbasses didn't help much either.

I don't think anyone would dispute that. The point that I am making is that you can't just assume Tyson would have won otherwise. Is it possible? Absolutly but I wouldn't go and call it a definate.

I would, if the rematch took place 6 months later. Did you see how terrible Buster looked against Hoyfield? Out of shape, not motivated and I believe he was knocked out in the 2nd round if I'm not mistaken. What world class heavyweight throws a lazy uppercut from a distance? Tyson would of countered him with the hook the same way Holyfield did, that I'm sure of.

Both factors, plus Buster was a "man on the mission" that night!!!
When someone "on the mission" 99% of the times they will win shock!!! (Buster, Glen Johnson!)
The other 1% when they loose, it's gonna be one heluva fight!!! (Mtagwa!)

undertrained. ludicrous question. douglas never had anyones number. it just happened that he fought the fight of his life on that night and Tyson was overconfident, undertrained, and ill=prepared.
