Iron Mike is one of the my favorites of all time. However, do you think he is overrated and do you think he is the most overrated fighter ever?

Hard to qualify the term overrated because it depends on the caliber. Every "overrated" fighter is good because they are noticed.

He was an animal in his prime, yet when he stepped up he was crushed. Just curious as to what ESB thinks of it.

Yes, but he is still a great fighter.

But if you put all of the ATG's in a round robin at their prime, Tyson probably wouldn't scratch a win against any of them.

People always say Prime Mike beats anyone. I think if he fights Holyfield 10 times he wins 0. If he fights Lennox maybe wins 3.

Only people who don't watch much boxing overrate him. People who follow boxing don't

Tyson is maybe the most overrated and underrated ever. People are too extreme.

More so it's casual fans with Tyson, some act like he was the greatest thing ever, but some more serious boxing fans overrate him too. An excuse for everything, failing to acknowledge his weaknesses. It was pretty funny when people would always say "Tyson will rise to the top again if he went back to Rooney"....they would say it in 2003!

Then there's others that take it too far and underrate him. Saying things like "all you had to do was not be scared and stand up to him to win". Geez, do you think only ONE guy in his first 46 fights was not scared of him?

He was indeed somewhat of a front runner but it's not that simple, you had to have the right skills, style, and gameplan and execute it well. And of course being confident is important. People often knock his era, the 80s certainly was filled with talented underachievers, but lots of HWs eras are considered weak. Besides the 70s and 90s, how often do you actually hear people describe a HW division as strong?

no way, there were so many journeyman fighters at heavyweight in the 1980s after Holmes was beaten by Spinks, and Mike knocked out many of them easily. Solid guys who would not be beaten that easily. He destroyed people and was good. He took for granted how much training and concentration he would need to keep his defense what it was from 1985-1988. He slipped just a little, and for a smaller guy that was enough for bigger guys to get some punches in and start beating him. He was great.

Ever? Probably not. He made the hw division exciting for almost 2 years and spawned a lot of new boxing fans.

He was hella over rated though... no doubt. Lokk at his "best wins"... Razor Ruddick ffs...

Tyson was over-rated for sure, but he was one of the most exciting heavyweights ever to enter the ring. People will talk about him for 30 years after his retirement.

That is why I dont think he could beat any All time great heavyweight

That would be able to slip his jab or counter over it and knock him out

There is a faw in your argument. No one was able to get past his jab in the past 10 year. Wlad is just that good.
