    No i honestly think it was something done in the late 30's by many fighters , especially Mexicans and Latino fighters.. It was kinda a ponchesque thing..

    I saw a Joe Louis opponent wear a similar thing on video tape too, maybe not a towellin one but a cotton material poncho..

    Mike did pioneer it as a modern day must have item though...

    Mike loved those old school heavyweights.. Mike loved Dempsey , Louis, Conn , slattery etc...

    Mike's favorite was no doubt dempsey, he got the dempsey roll and perfected it.
