Oh, here he is again. It's that one guy who always goes on different forums and asks questions about Tyson's handspeed, power, footspeed, etc.. I figured it was just a troll getting a kick and having a strange sense of humor, but he even kept asking questions to Dan Rafael on ESPN's chats about Tyson's footspeed and if he could've danced on his toes. Rafael told him to "get professional help now".
No, his speed was as advertised. But you know what? His foot speed was criminally underrated. In his prime, Mike actually had the feet to be fleet footed and even possessed the ability to get on his toes and dance around the ring, like say..an Ali. No ****ing joke.
He gave up 10 inches in reach in most of his fights, and usually about 4-6 inches in height too, yet managed to out-land and KO almost everyone he fought. I'd say his handspeed, like his foot-speed, is vastly under-rated if anything. I think Ali had the faster hands, but Tyson put punches together at evil velocity better than anyone. The guy could throw a 5 punch combination and every single punch would be a KO punch, he was awesome in his prime. Tyson from 86-89 is the best heavyweight of my lifetime.
Ali and Tyson had two diff types of footspeeds that cant really be compared. Ali had amazing defensive footspeed, while Mike had amazing offensive footspeed to close the distance immediately.
That's why prime Ali V prime Tyson is still a very interesting fight. Ali moved like lightening going backwards but Tyson did the same thing going forwards, handspeed was comparable but Tyson hit harder with every punch he threw. Ali had a huge mental edge but would it be enough..... Very interesting match up, I don't think many fighters could have tested prime Ali but Tyson is definately one of them.
No, Tysons hands were quick, dunt know who ur comparing him to, u gota remember he was a heavy-weight. Extremely poor post.
I think Mike had it all, after all he accomplished in his career i believe he underachieved in a big way and that says alot, he could have been the best of all time, no doubt.
Kevin Rooney said it best.....Tyson could have gone 50-0 before the age of 25 and held the undisputed title for 5 years to achieve it. That would have been some going but anyone who saw him back then would have believed it. Tyson V Douglas is still the biggest shock ever in boxing history - 2nd place goes to Tyson V Holyfield 6 years later. Shows how highly the guy was rated.
