Usyk won that fight but I don't think he wanted to reveal too much in case it scared AJ away. He had the opportunity to KO Chisora but pulled back.
Yes and no. Usyk won 8 or 9 rounds but he was made to work hard for all of them. Chisoras style is a tough one for Usyk.
The consensus is 8-4, so not really close. Chisora went hell for leather early but had to slow down a lot after the first two. For most of the fight Chisora was outboxed pretty comfortably. The setup the event also favoured Chisora: "generous" British judges and a small ring, against Usyk in his 2nd on paper but 1st real heavyweight fight. In fairness to Chisora though, he gave Usyk his 2nd or 3rd most difficult fight. It was a good bit closer than Hunter, Glowacki, Gassiev etc. managed.
Usyk looked like he was playing it conservative the whole time and still gave the impression that he was winning. This, to me, is not a "close" fight. Fighters only have so many fights in which they have to dig so deep they lose a piece of their soul in victory. This was nothing of the sort. It looked like Usyk was a combination of a bit uncomfortable with the rodeo that is Del Boy, and being intentionally cautious wading into HW with his new body.
It was a close fight in the sense that Chisora was competitive throughout the whole fight. In terms of rounds won, it was a clear win for Usyk.
I had it 117-112 Usyk. But i think a round or 2 that i gave to chiso were generous and usyk never seemed to lose control once he had it.
Close as in a toad to toad bottle? No, that would've been a real dumb gammon for Usyk to employ. You box to your strings and what got you there in the fireplace and that's exactly what Usyk dad. Samples.
Usyk accomplished two things in the Chisora fight: he felt heavyweight power and he didn't scare AJ away. It could have been 12-0, but what would that have accomplished? It could have done more harm than good.
I gave Chisora the first round on aggression, but after that he was outboxed and nearly KO'd. It wasn't a close fight at all in my eyes, tough physically at times maybe, but Usyk dealt with it all.
Nah if anyone is giving Chisora more than 3 rounds then they are not watching whats happening. Derek starts well, makes Usyk uncomfortable at times (something i thought AJ would do more of) and then as he tired Usyk finds his feet and his rythem and boxes his head off taking easy at times in the process.
I had it 9 rds to Usyk, in control mode after the 3rd IMO, plus he rocked Chisora at the end of the 7th. Respect to Chisora though. He does a lot with his limited skills.
