I had this fight 116-114 Wright with some rounds a tie. This was a pretty exciting fight so how did you score it? :think
i thought winky beat him in a action packed fight.but what do i know i thought he beat jermain taylor as well.
No. Close fight, Vargas won the 10th and 12th to pull it out. The CHAMPION threw MORE punches, without winky even having a higher connect percentage. Its not often a challenger comes in, throws less punches, without connecting at a higher rate, loses 2 of the last three championship rounds and comes away the victor. Im not going to argue with someone who thought winky won the fight.... you thought he won, fine.... i didnt but i can see where one would think he did i suppose, and i need to go back and rewatch it and rescore it. To be honest i havnt scored it in about 4 years or so, so id have to go back and score it.... but im just going off memory here and to me at the time (a young biased vargas fan :yep:good) Vargas pulled out a win, but at the same time I know other journalists and boxing sites that had the fight a draw and a close victory for vargas (doug fisher for one i believe scored it for one round for vargas if im not mistaken) I have the Taylor fight a draw as well.... though i havnt rewatched it since that night, i might have to rewatch that as i know a lot of people have that one for winky.
Robbery? Absolutely not. Try watching it again, only this time give Vargas credit for his bodywork. BODY PUNCHES COUNT. This concept gets lost on ALOT of "fans."
I remember having Wright as the winner. I dont really think that it was a robbery but Vargas got some rounds that were close, but he didnt really win. Dirrell Froch was a robbery, this was just a close fight that you could make a case for either guy winning.
Exactly Its a shame than Winky didnt make much more out of his career than he did. He was a difficult opponent for any MW. BTW I thought he beat Taylor, though, that also was a close fight
