OK, I am bewildered by this thread! Is there an inside joke I am missing?

It is well known that lufcrazy, Saintpat and Fergy are aliases for Messrs Mendoza, Sulaiman and Lee! ;)

That explanation makes as much sense as anything at this point. I was wondering if it some sarcastic veiled reference to the fact that the under Sulaiman the WBC faced liquidation after being sued by Graciano Rocchigiani!

I've never understood this bizarre notion that any of these illegitimate, corrupt and parasitic sanctioning bodies was or is any better than any other.

I think they all suck. Yeah, at a certain time in a certain division any organization is going to have the best champion. Best champion - that's an oxymoron unless we're comparing champs of the past against each other. But none of these organizations seem to have any concept of how to be the most prestigious organization. To answer your question, yes the WBC was in the lead at heavyweight between 1997-1999, because they recognized lineal champion Lennox Lewis, added to the fact that Lewis beat Holyfield.

The sad thing, and I've said this before, is that any one of them could step up, choose to run things right (accurate ratings, no sitting on ratings, 15-round title fights, no interim or silver champions, ranking the true top challenger as #1 contender even if that person is another organization's champ) and BE the most prestigious organization and make a lot more money for themselves, boxers, and promoters, and make boxing a more popular sport. But they choose to stay in the gutter.
