    Of course he, his team, and Haymon were afraid of facing Povetkin. Haymon wouldn't have approached the WBC to delay the matchup once again, and then propose to Povetkin's team to have Charles Martin fight him instead if he wasn't afraid.

    "Multiple sources say that Haymon tried to make a title unification bout between Wilder and Martin but the WBC refused to release Wilder from his obligation to fight mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin. Then, in a further effort to protect Wilder, an overture was made to Team Povetkin to see if the Russian would fight Martin instead but the Povetkin camp said no." - Thomas Hauser's Al Haymon article, pg 5.

    Russian former world number one Maria Sharapova was handed a two-year ban by the International Tennis Federation on Wednesday following her positive test for banned drug meldonium at this year's Australian Open.

    In a statement the ITF said the 29-year-old five-times grand slam champion's ban would be back-dated to Jan. 26 this year, meaning her results from the Australian Open where she reached the quarter-finals, would be disqualified.
