First off, im not slagging PW off, its just that some articles ive been reading seem to suggest that this is the second coming or something. I watched the fight, and although I had williams winning, by 2 rounds, i didnt see anything that made me beam with excitement, or anticipate a new legend! thoughts?
His punch output was great, he was landing at will with his jab. Margo landed flush soemtimes but couldnt put Williams down. Over all Williams is a solid fighter with speed, reach and great conditioning. I am not quite sold on him being the best pound for pound or anything but a fight with Floyd Mayweather would be interesting. I think he has a bright future.
he's got the snakearms of dhalsim and the agility of slimer. with these attributes he can cause a lot of trouble to any technical fighter who needs to adjust his style from opponent to opponent. so i think just like there's always a puncher's chance in higher weight classes, he's got a weirdo chance against most of the top guys at 147.
HE IS A STUD!!!! I love the guy. Non-stop action. At times I wish he would sit down on his punches more and try and get guys out of there instead of just the constant barrage, but, he is fun to watch. Reminds me of Juan Diaz in that it is all about non-stop offense but without much power.
The reason for the excessively positive reception is because most people baught that Margarito was a real elite level fighter. Realistically, Williams impressed against a 2nd rater.
Williams impressed me a little bit. I picked Margo to win but Williams chin surprised me. Hr also has a good chance against Cotto and even May Jr in about 2 more years if Floyd still boxes.
He impressed me by keeping his composure when Margarito turned up the heat in the final 4 rounds. But other than that he did enough to win and thats all that matters.
Weve seen Cotto wobble if you catch him right. Williams is so much taller than Cotto he should get good leverage on his punches if he would just put more of his body into it.
He's really impressive...not only with his physical demensions but he's got skills! And he's non stop so that makes for one hell of an exciting fighter. You could see the technique he has with his movement defensivel and his ring awareness throughout the fight...I don't think Margo got Paul on the ropes more than 2 times. And believe me...Margo wanted to corner Paul so he could finally let loose. Paul is very impressive and that's conservative. He's young and full of fighting fire. We'll see ALOT moore of Paul in the future. But he's not the second comming of Ray Robinson....there's no one to foot that bill at this point.
Well, is he the second coming? HELL NO! LOL... But he was impressive enough to warrent most of the attention he has gotten since. 1- His punch output was amazing. When you factor in his size, that is just unbelievable. People his size arent supposed to throw THAT much and have THAT much left in the tank for the 12th round. 2- Which leads me to his stamina. Not only did he throw in excess of 1200+, not only did he have the intellegence to save enough to look fresh in the 12th (after a tough 11th), but with the amount of movement he used....he should have collapsed like Wlad in the first Brewster fight. And thats before you factor in the shots that Margo landed on him.... His stamina was fantastic. 3- He took alot of clean, flush shots from a very big hitter at WW. And not only did he take them all....but he would take one and throw four back....showing he doesnt just have a great chin, but fast recovery also. 4- The way he changes velocities on his punches is just amazing. Especially when you factor in his age. Hopkins is a master at this, using different speeds on punches to keep the other fighter off balance....Williams did this unbelievably. And like I said, young fighters for the most part NEVER do this. Manny Steward pointed it out in the 2nd and he was right. 5- They went in their with a great gameplan and even when Margarito started to walk him down and put some big shots on him...for the most part, he stuck with it. And when he didnt, his corner told him to get back to it....and unlike most fighters these days....he listened. Not anything that can be seen in fight...but still great to see these days. 6- HE BEAT ANTONIO MARGARITO!!! Warrents mentioning.... So again, is he the second coming.....no.....is he a great young fighter, with great tools and great potential......YES!
