He had 3 wins in 2008:

    1) Sultan Ibragimov-WBO Champion, who was undefeated, in his prime, in-shape, and a southpaw. Boring fight, but Wlad dominated him.

    2) Tony Thompson-WBO Mandatory who earned his position, who had won 27 straight fights, fairly in-shape. Tall, awkward southpaw. Wlad KO'd him in the 11th.

    3) Hasim Rahman-IBF Mandatory. Former two-time HW Champion who KO'd the great Lennox Lewis. Late replacement and not in-shape. Wlad TKO 7.

If not, does he have a chance in 09? Will he ever get it?

i dont think there is a chance of any heavyweight getting F.O.Y until the division becomes much deeper again

Wladimir deserves a mention at least although Pacman probably gets the nod & rightly so.

He deserves a very passing mention at best.

He was expected to win all of those fights comfortably. Nobody gave Rahman a prayer, and not much better for Thompson or Ibragimov. Hardly comparable to what Pacquiao has done.

It's getting a bit more interesting though, admit it.

    Champs:

    W. Klitschko IBF, WBO, IBO
    V. Klitschko WBC
    Chagaev WBA
    Valuev WBA Interim

    Challengers:

    Povetkin
    Arreola
    Haye
    Gomez
    Dimentrenko
    Boytsov
    Ibragimov
    Peter
    Maskaev
    Chambers
    Solis
    Toney
    Ruiz
    Virchis
    Holyfield

I'd have to argue that the division is becoming quite "deep" if only these guys would fight each other & provide us with the very best possible matchups.

Its doubtful any HW will get fighter of the year in the future.

If Vitali retired in 2010, and Wlad fought three times that year and ended up with all 4 belts, I could see him being FOY.

Hmm lets look at this then, beats Ibragimov in the least entertaining heavyweight title fight in living memory, defends against Thompson in a very dull drubbing, then jabs shot replacement Rahman into submission... ofcourse he deserves fighter of the year!!:patsch

Margarito still deserves it imo, beating Cintron and Cotto in good fashion as wel as one of them being a candidate for fight of the year.

Pac is a close second but I thought he lost to Marquez, so id stick with Margo.

Vladimir is not getting interesting. He doesn't move as well as he used to anymore in his fights, and he still fights like a mouse because he's scared of being KO'd. That Ibragimov fight was incredibly boring. And yes he won the other fights with KO's and easily won the Ibragimov fight, but there are too many other fighters that had more impressive years than Wladimir (Vic Darchynian, Juanma Lopez, Manny Pacquiao, Antonio Margarito, David Haye, etc, etc)

I don't think Wlad will ever be in contention for fighter of the year. His style is effective, but not inspiring to the people who select stuff like this. There is also the fact that he comes in as a substantial favorite all the time. So, he'll never be able to claim an "upset" victory; and he won't be in any action packed slugfests, there is very little chance of being fighter of the year. He'll just have to settle for being the best heavyweight of the year.

Has anyone offered you a lifetime ban if Haye losses to Vitali?

If not, I'd like to take you up on that.

He beat two top-10 guys and a washed out has-been. Big whoop. Not only should be be behind Pacquiao, but he should also be behind Darchinyan, Hatton, JMM, Calzaghe, Caballero, Calderon, etc.

Perhaps if he had fought and beat someone like Haye, and maybe if he took out that big lug too (Valuev)
