As per scene, Washington looks in great shape and is training hard. Wilder's usual approach of short-noticing his opponents may backfire, much to the delight of boxing fans and Wilder's haters. But, perhaps unbeknownst to them, Wilder losing would be terrible for boxing for the following reasons : 1. Washington started pro boxing at 30, as a former football player. If he wins, that reinforces the idea that a big athletic guy can just take up boxing and become a hw champ late in life because it is so damn easy. It takes decades to become a good boxer and this would damage the image of the sport. 2. Wilder is a legitimate champ that is, despite the farcical choice of defense opponents, has become a name in the sport. Name recognition is vital to the survival of the sport. 3. Wilder vs AJ/Wlad winner I'd a mouth watering fight. Washington against either is a one side beat down. 4. Wilder and Fury gave us a preview of an explosive and entertaining fight with weeks of exciting trash talk and face to face interviews that promise to be electric. Washington seems dull. I actually want Wilder to win. Do you?
wilder will probably win but I wouldn't mind seeing him lose. his ego has gotten 2 big for a guy whos defeated one decent heavyweight .that was also ill on fight night.
Wilder isn't a 'name'. He is only a 'draw' in Alabama. A lot of people know who he is because of his run ins with Charlie Zelenoff and Prophet Muscle. Not for his actual fights.
Wilder will win bar a lucky punch, he does everything better than Washington. Besides, Washington doesn't hit that hard either (he can, but doesn't load up on the right hand).
I want Wilder to get his ass kicked. That doesn't take anything away from the great post that you just posted, though. Making some good points there. I wouldn't mind an influx of new blood into boxing. Gives the top guys more people to knock out
Huge blow for the heavyweight division! but it won,t happen , Wilder is 5 times better than Washington
Keep dreaming. Washington isn't ready but he wanted it but he should be careful what he asks for. There's multiple ways for Wilder to win this fight just has to do it at this point then on to the next one.
Its not necessarily good or bad for boxing. How do we know that if Washington knocks Wilder out and becomes WBC champion that he does not copy Wilder, and fight a succession of hand picked nobodies avoiding all of the elite HW opponents? The fans want the elites facing each other, not avoiding each other. The real problem is the WBC. They really need to be cleaned up. They have become so corrupt and out of touch.
I guess George Washington winning the belt years after he died will be good for boxing. It will tell people that they can accomplish anything they want if they put your mind too it. Even come back from the dead and knock out a skinny leg "heavyweight" champion.
