100% agree he needs a new trainer and is talented. Has good skills. He also needs more dog in him. Whyte showed him how to be more aggressive. I hope he's taken it on board. I'd like to see him work on his footwork more. Especially closing distance and getting inside range for fights against taller opponents.
I just think Parker has lacked experience. Those losses I think will bring a steely determination and focused aggression. Wait and see...
If Parker became a nasty son of a ***** in the ring and trusted his chin more he could be a real force. Also, and this will sound stupid, but a lot of fighters get losses or their form dips because they lack concentration and deviate from the plan, I think Parker does the opposite of this to his own detriment. I think he needs to get Hulk mad once in a while and try and wrecking ball some of his opponents.
Classic example of styles make fights. Parker's strengths eventually neutralised Ruiz's but were less effective against AJ's. But I wonder if Parker now regrets not being more pro-active vs Joshua?
Yes - I'm sure both Parker and Povetkin regret not being BOLDER now. Still - Parker has time on his side...
Joshua was using his legs etc till the third when ruiz buzzed him. The gameplan then went out the window. People need to understand when these big heavyweights connect...gameplans go out the window. Exactly what happened here. With all the will in the world their minds not working properly at that point. They,ve trained for it for months. The coaches are telling them what to do. Doesnt really matter. Their minds been basically shut down from thinking straight. Its about survival at that point. Unfortunately for joshua hr takes longer to recover than most and ruiz made the most of the oppertunity. There was nothing wrong with joshuas gameplan on saturday. His big mistake was going for the kill too early. We could have easily been talking about an easy 3rd round knockout of ruiz. No one would have complained about joshuas performance then.
115-113 Ruiz JR, he got jobbed in NZ, some people will never accept it but for me this is the truth - Home decision. Could have gone either way ? This is a nice cliche but it usually goes for the local fighter, most of the time 99.9 % of the time. I wonder what would have happened if it was given as draw since it was for the vacant title ? Rematch right away or ? Perhaps next time not in NZ. Who knows but Ruiz JR was always underrated and Parker overrated early on - that is the truth.
I had it 116–112 Ruiz, Parker back pedalling flicking out a jab wasn’t enough for me. Some rounds were close but Ruiz consistently landed the cleaner power punches. I remember wondering at the time if Parker had hurt his right hand as he was barely throwing it.
Ruiz Jr. looked like a fat, plodding whale with terrible footwork and a lazy workrate. Anyone arguing his woeful conditioning is not affecting him is delusional.
Agree with this observation. He gives ground like its mannerly. Not enough ******* in him. Ruiz fought like absolute ******* against Joshua, spiteful as ****. I had the fight a draw and was not overly impressed with the lack of urgency on display. They out-waited each other for spells. Knowing what we know now, Parker fought a clever fight, tried to technically out-squabble Ruiz. That said I had the fight a draw and don't think Parker covered himself in glory until the 12th, when he fought really well. Should have drawn that out of him the 10th.
