That was probably Nazarov..who fought out of Japan and was an excellent fighter. He won the WBA lightweight title and held it for a few years.

He defeated Kostya at the start of 1988, when Kostya was about 19 and Gussie was probably 22 or 23. But Im fairly certain Kostya avenged that loss. He was the one who ended up going to the olympics in that weight class in 88.

Kostya also represented the Soviets at the next world championships in Moscow at lightweight..Pretty much by the time he moved up to jnr welter, Gussie was in Japan and had turned pro.

I see you found him. He went to Japan with Ebihara (or Arbachakov)..Both did pretty well.

Yeah, thats the one thanks. Interesting to see how they would have done against each other in the pros.

I have the fight on tape. KT is just too sharp and composed for Vernon at that stage of Vernons career. A rematch in the pro's would have been very interesting. Johnny Lewis said he believes Forrest's height would actually work in KT's favour, but Johnny Lewis has said some stupid things over the years, and is a very overrated trainer.

    No doubt...

This was a great fighter with dynamite on his right hand and to prove it he blew Zab in 2 round's a fighter Mayweather couldn't stop and not to mention also stopped Gonzalez a fighter prime DLH couldn't stop.

Tszyu was indeed a beast at 140!!

It's funny how no one criticizes him for never jumping up in weight; he decided to clean out the division.

But, if you mention Calzaghe staying at 168 his entire career, people throw a tantrum!!
