Shane Mosley is an aging vet with no title. He needed to beat Cotto in order to re-establish himself and lure the ultimate money man in the division into a fight

The hell he doesn't. Floyd is the top guy in the division and generates the most money. There's no other fight out there that can garner him as much money or prestige as would be the case with him fighting Floyd. Look at it this way. Cotto got a career high $5 milll to fight Mosley. Floyd is getting that for a fake fight against the Big Show.

He's never done 2.5 million buys. Name another fighter with which he could generate those numbers.

The fact remains that the fight did 850k buys in the U.S. There has never been another fight that didn't involve a HW or DLH that has done that many buys in the U.S. If you want to tell me that a foreign fighter who has only fought a few fights in the U.S(none of them were close to being sold out), was the one mostly responsible for these numbers than be my guest. However, anyone with an ounce of common sense knows this isn't the case.

    See that right there is whats the real b u l l s h i t

Those type of attitudes are exactly what takes a sport like boxing and throws it in the gutter. It's like wtf is that? Boxer A doesn't need Boxer B but Boxer B needs Boxer A...Wtf that is the problem here.. All the bluffing needs to stop, this is boxing and the BEST fight the BEST and thats pretty much final. Floyd knows it but hes just prolonging the wait so he can make more money thats all this is about. If Floyd Mayweather doesn't fight Cotto after the Gomez fight than IMHO hes an idiot. Just because Cotto would then fight a much more challenging fight in the winner of Margarito vs Cintron and what if Cotto happens to get hurt by a hard shot by those 5'11 huge welterweights? Floyd just makes no sense sometimes.

I apologize if you took what I said the wrong way. The fact of the matter thought is that all fighters strive to be the best. To be the best you need to beat the best. Floyd is the best out there. Floyd also represents Cotto's biggest payday. In that regards, Cotto needs Floyd. There's no denying this.

From Floyd's prospective, he doesn't need Cotto. He's already the best in the sport, he's already accomplished alot in this sport, and he already has his ticket punched into the HOF. So no, he doesn't need Cotto. However, I believe it is the responsibility of people like Floyd to help grow the sport. One of the ways you do this, is by developing stars. Floyd can go a long way to develope Cotto as a star by giving him an opportunity. Oscar didn't need Floyd, but he gave him an opportunity. Floyd doesn't need Cotto, but he should give him an opportunity. Cotto has earned a shot. He's a very talented fighter, and he's considered the no.1 guy in the division.

nah I think the WWF event, Hatton II and DLH II bring more money than cotto. Unfortunately that's the way it is for a while. But things will change and that's up to cotto('s team) as well (i.e. winning his next 3 fights)

In the sense of legacy Floyd doesn't really need Cotto. But you have to agree with me here, To be the King of the Hill and Floyd is that King you gotta keep everyone off. Everyone is fighting to be that king and I think its degrading to the sport of boxing when the "lb 4 lb" King is taking it easy (right now) in rematching DLH. Financially sure it makes sense, and his whole deal with the wreslemania thing is nice and all. But when you're the king of the hill theres no taking breaks because everyone is under you trying to knock you off.

Once again, the sport is starving for stars. Floyd fully admits that he's semi-retired. He needs to give other people an opportunity to prove themselves and get a chance to become stars and get paid. Unlike most people here, I totally understand the DLH rematch. However, after this fight, he needs to stop thinking about himself and start thinking about the sport.

Mayweather/Cotto is a must for 2009. I've been watching Cotto for a while, I like how he's developed. I hope Floyd stops with this nonsense about Cotto building up his fanbase. He has the money, he has the legacy. The sport has given him so much. He needs to give back to the sport.
