Marciano would throw power shots again and again and again, hard hammer shots relentlessly. Why is it that not even lightweights today can match this type of workrate. Todays fighters just do not train as hard as fightrs in the past. Why is it that guys gas once they shoot a decent amount of punches in a rd these days?
Simply put, it's a lack of road work. People put alot of planning into training calendars, etc, but the amount of sheer roadwork just isn't as much. With 12 round fights, most people just train for 12 at a moderate pace. They don't run enough to train for 20 round fights like Marciano did just to make 15 rounders. There's exceptions to this, but as a whole, that's what I think contributes to what you just described. Guys train more for short term quickness and maximizing physical strength at the expense of raw conditioning.
some fighters today throw punches for 12 rounds non-stop and could do so for even more. Its not like every fighter in Marciano's day had the same workrate that he did.
