imo this was the greatest fight ever,i remember watching it live with my jaw on the floor, awe inspiring.chico did purposely remove the mouthpiece&got penalised& imo that did save him from being stopped, tony weeks was brilliant in the fight&the stoppage was spot on.

Diego made his mark on the sport of boxing, his fams should be very proud.

The man did what he had to do to get the win, and that was a smart, strategic move by him regardless of what anyone says.

    Rest in peace, Diego.

he got a point taken so he paid the price of survival. he learned it from popo. if the ref dosent step in I think he eats a bad haymaker that he didnt need to cause he couldnt defend his self. I preferred to see the haymaker land

He was ready. His mouthpiece came out and that had to be dealt with.

Look Im not saying what Corrales did was not wrong.

But what he did fell within the guidelines.

It's like low blows, illegal but you can do it once or twice before getting a point taken.

if you watched the fight closely he is looking at the ref the whole time and completly with it , following the count closley as soon as he gets up he walks toward the ref as instructed,he is then ready to fight yet the ref has to let his corner put the mouthpiece in which gives him that little bit of extra time. this borderlines on sheer genius but at the same time it's worth penalizing.

No he was not ready. he was completly out of it and spit the mouthpiece out to buy time to recover because the 10 seconds were not enough. A competent ref should know the difference. You get 10 second to recover. If it's not enough you should lose. It will forever be a tainted victory in my eyes and I was happy when Castillo got his revenge in the rematch. He broke the rules by weighing too much and paid the fine. I guess you could call that the equialent of Corrales losing a point.

Spot on. As a boxing referee, they actually teach you what to do in this situation, and its a judgement call. Corrales got up, and the referee wiped his gloves. From here, you have a call to make, independent of the mouthpiece. Stop the fight, or let it go? Chico was fine, so the referee let it go. Then, he penalized a point for a foul, got the mouthpiece cleaned, and put it back in

The referee acted perfectly competent. Was the move cheap? Yes. So we the low blows and elbows both guys through all fight. Its a battle. Do what it takes. It cant be tainted for me, because less than a minute later Castillo was helpless taking the pounding of his life. I cant certainly say that the counter left hook and right hand that put Castillo on ***** street wouldnt have landed had Corrales had 10 less seconds. JLC charged in foolishly, and he paid with the fight.

I gotta agree with this. Its an intentional foul designed to alter the fight, ala Tito's low blows in the Vargas fight. The only right course of action is to deduct points. Had this not happened, it would have been a travesty, but the referee penalized the cheating.

man, this fight was/is so emotional for me...
when it barely happened, i called it a ***** move from corrales because castillo deserved that fight...after being robbed against money may, i prayed for the day this man would get his revenge on the boxing world, and fighting corrales at that time was a dangerous move, but he proved to us how great he was.....but it actually turned me into more of a corrales fan too, i mean this man would do whatever it took to win, and 99.9 % of the time this man was a class act inside the ring, that one .01 percent wont take away from him because there is many other times he proved his warriorism by putting it all on the line for us fans.....

the rematch couldn't of been any better for castillo, he didnt try to cruise to a decision, he came out with bad intentions and laid the ****en smack down.....hard !!!

sad that they took so much out of each other, there was a couple more years inside castillo left, but that fight clearly took away a lot of the man that would hardly ever get talked about now...:-:)-(

the way i see the whole mouthpiece thing now is a bit different, mainly cause of how castillo got his revenge and corrales sadly passed away....not only that, but corrales was a true , clean warrior inside that ring.....it's dirty nasty ****s like bhop, sam peter and many others that get on my nerves with their so called "smart tactics" :-:)-(
