Watched Floyd Mosley, new view on Pac fight

HBO did the best of 2010 and I watched it, the fight was a bit better 2nd time around I noticed a few more things, before you jump on me about this im not confusing it with a ring war or classic but it was a little better to watch

That said it has changed my views on the Pacquiao fight and on a possible Mayweather Paquiao shoowdown

I am a fan of both and have watched all of Floyds since Castillo 2 live and all of Mannys since Barerra 1 live and have seen all of Mosleys welter career

What i can say is Im not gonna rule out Mosley just yet. Now I saw Mosley land as good a shot as ever on Floyd in round 2 and then also landed another one that buckled his legs. Mosley failed to go to the body and do more damage. He would be wise to body punch Manny.

To look for

Stamina- I dont think Shane gassed. He was on his toes the whole fight moving his hands and doing these herky jerky kind of movements, a gassed fighter would not be able to be that mobile. People sight low out put, I think that was more of he was out foxed plain and simple not tired. He didnt know how to get in and rather than risk being countered he flat out just did not come forward

Strategy- I think Mosley flat out lacked a strategy last May. After round 2 he had no answer what so ever. Could not get to his face again and never risked going to the body. He basically bounced on his toes followed him around flicked out a weak jab and wrestled a bit at times. He needs a game plan vs Pacquiao and Roach who always do their homework and are always well prepared.

Jab- Mosely was never really a jabber. Especially vs Floyd it jsut wasnt there. He put it out there but not effectivley or with any snap. Morales and Marquez both gave Manny hard fights 4 wars between them and they both had HOF jabs. Mosley cant get a hOF jab in a few months of training but he needs to put more snap on it

Losses- Shane so far has only lost to boxers. Forrest boxed behind a jab and a tight D and was outboxed. Winky, tight D great jab just outboxed. Cotto yeah he is a slugger but that night he boxed behind a great jab it was close but he won. Floyd outboxed him.

Athleticism-Shane relies on it a lot. He is not the greatest boxer his losses have shown this but his style revolves around his power which is outstanding and still there and just natural athletisism. He is older and some of that natural ability is going.

Manny is a much improved fighter and keeps on getting better. He lands at a higher accuracy and is hit less. Two major improvements, he also is no longer a left handed fighter.

However, Manny lately has not fought anybody who can be called a counter puncher or a defensive guy. Now Im not gonna call Mosley a tremendous counter puncher but he is not a slow plodder like Margo and Cotto fought good for a few roudns but ultimatley could not do it for a whole fight. What Im saying is is that Manny no longer stands there and trades as much. He knows he is not big enough, he did not sit there and trade with Margo he moved a lot he circled the ring a lot. Manny will not be there to be hit. But Mosley is not slow and easy to hit like Margo.

Funny thing is is that neither of these guys are jabbers. How are they gonan approach eachother is Manny just gonna dive in with the left and be susceptible to that right hand.

How it plays out- I dont see Mosley takin a Margo or Cotto like bleeding. I dont see him beeing bruised and cut to pieces. Now if you study my old posts I pick agaisnt Manny a lot and have learned to start realizing Im wrong and that he is a lot better. I will pick Manny this time by TKO, on the feet no KD's but a seeries of unanswered shots. I feel like Floyd could have done it any time after the 8th but decided to toy with him and punish him for 12 rounds rather than get him out of there. Except for holding back on a disfigured Margo Manny usually gets the job done. He is not a one punch KO artist but can example Hatton but he has a lot of power, he put Marquez on his ass 3 times in the 1st round and broke Margos face in 4 rounds.

The fight will be competitive for 6 to 8 rounds then Manny takes over and gets the TKO around the 11th. By competitive Im not saying Mosley will win a bunch of rounds but he will make the rounds hard and close.

 

Now in the back of my mind I saw what Floyd did and tried to figure what would happen if he ever gets in the ring with Manny. With all these legal troubles and all will the fight ever be made?

Well my take on this fight was also changed

For the longest time I said Floyd by easy UD Manny has no chance

Well first off Floyd is the better boxer Im not gonna try and deny that.

However I think if in a few months after Mosley Manny is catching Floyd at the right time.

Manny would be in all likelyhood coming off a huge win and and even more experienced, Floyd would have been inactive, older, and etc. Manny has time on his side.

Floyd beat Mosley very skillfully. He just had his number from round 3 on. He figured out Mosley's plan shut it down and Mosley jsut had no idea what to do after.

He landed every punch in his arsenal and seemed to have him in the palm of his hand like a puppet master it seemed whatever Floyd wanted to happen in that ring could have happened that night. I strongly beleive that if Floyd put together a solid combo and didnt let up he could have got a TKO but I think he prefered to talk to him taunt him and punish him over 12 rounds.

Manny is a much different animal than Floyd's last two opponents. Marquez was a jab right hand counter puncher with a low out put and not much power above 135. Mosley is a power puncher who relys on his natural gifts.

Manny is more mobile, has a higher work rate, is a southpaw and can bring the fight to Floyd

Speed- I dont know who is faster, really Im not sure Manny's hands and feet are extremely fast but Floyds anticipation speed and counters are so sharp and quick

Power- Neither man is a one shot KO guy and Floyds hand are brittle and lateley he doesnt go for it all and i think he protects his hands. Manny has crisp power, not concussive he wont KO you in one shot but he can close up your eyes and cut you like Cotto or he can break your face like Margo. The speed of the delivery of his shots creates that power

Southpaw left hand- the fast left of Judah gave Floyd a heap of trouble for 4 rounds, Manny can throw it for 12 rounds hard unlike Judah, how much of a factor is it? I dont buy into the southpaw hype Oscar and Castillo his two hardest fights were orthdox fighters

Jab- Floyd does not jab a lot but he did effectivley vs Mosley if he was smart he would use it

Corner and plan- Roach and Mayweather always are prepped always do their HW they always send their guys in prepared

Floyds legs- People think the legs are gone I dont think so, just cause he sat in the pocket vs mosley doesnt mean their gone but at his age and being inactive he is obviously slowing

Early fireworks?- with all that speed and explosiveness and precise punching i really can see an early knockdown. Manny early on dropped Hatton several times and Cotto several times and Marquez several times. Floyd had Marquez down early and himself was almost down early. I think the best time to strike Floyd is early and Manny likes to strike early. The window is open in the early rounds, Floyd likes to feel you out in the first 3 or 4 rounds, however the more you open up the faster he figures you out.

Whats my point, Manny will come out guns blazing immediatley Ill bet. He'll attack that window of opportunity while it is the most open. Call me crazy but I can see Mannys fast left put Floyd on his ass early. Not a thunderous shot but the explosivness and timing like JMM in fight one he can put him down for a short count. That said Manny will come in for the kill and maybe eat a check hook and go down himself.

I think Manny will come in early if he is smart.

However, the formula to beating floyd is a jab and a body attack. Manny does not have a great jab and he is not a great body puncher. Manny has been stopped downstairs, Floyd throws to the body plenty with southpaws.

Manny to me is most interesting cuase he is fast, can get in and get out very quickly without getting hit and landing cleanly.

The bout to me jsut keeps getting more interesting.

Result- I still believe Floyd wins on the cards

 

thats why this can be a great fight or just a long night for Shane

 

That is a good point I dont think Shane has the jab but the idea of having him come in to set up the right is a great plan im sure Nazim will have a better plan than the one they had vs Floyd, plus i dont think Manny is capable of shutting down Mosley defensivly like that

 

the heart part is interesting he seemed unwilling to walk threw Floyd counters to go for the win he kind of packed it in once he realized he was gonna take hell to get inside

 

His offense we know is great.....his defense is improving he hardly gets touched anymore but the thing is to me his defense consists of foot speed and just not being in the pocket I think vs a fast fighter like Floyd we will see just how much defense he has cause he will have a guy fast enough to test it

Mosley will land at least one or two bombs Manny's respone determines the fight

in all honesty the most hurt Manny has been was a body shot in the Margo fight the body is bigger and easier to hit than the head im shocked more fighters dont hit Manny down stairs

 

Manny responds well to being hit flush usually with a left or two though

 

Him and Marquez p4p are probably the 2 best fighters at reacting to getting hit

I mean in the last fight Marquez had with Katsidis he was always the last guy to land in an exhange he responds to getting hit so well he gets hit and fires right back Manny too

thats why their fights were classics and thats why i hope a third happens
