Absolute belter of a fight, poor George was getting tagged all the time. Was getting hit with some bombs but lasted the distance! Well worth a watch.
Thanks to Holyfield for mixing it up. He could have made that fight very boring ala Tommy Morrison if he chose to just box.
Pretty much and it showed how easily a fighter could beat George if they just boxed in angles and moved a little bit. You saw when Holy boxed and moved it was easy but when he stood toe to toe with George he got hit and banged up. I guess these guys get too bored pasting Foreman for 12 rounds. Morrison knew his chin wouldnt hold, so he stuck to the plan.
Top banana! Shame that, I quite liked Morrison, for some reason I had in my head that it'd be an all out war!
Holyfield fought so aggressively because he was convinced by early success that he could win by knockout. George's toughness in this fight is Ali-esque.
I remember the promos leading up to the fight... They went something like: "See the two heaviest hitters in boxing clash live" I actually think that was the exact line... When I was watching boxing hard core from like 85-05 (maybe can't really remember when I stopped taping everything) I literally watched and taped everything!!! All those all ppv promos are still up there in my head lol... We were (me and my boys) so obsessed with it we not only taped all the fights but anything said about boxing on ESPN, CNN, Prime as soon as fights would end (big ones) with coverage we would tape sportscenter anything and everything we could get lol.. I could fill a small room with all my old vhs tapes... For mega fights like say Tyson-Holyfield I bet I have close to 18 hours of non fight bs.. Its insane I know but true...
WHOOOAA!! Credit to Morrison for being in tip-top shape back in June 1993 and for fighting the most disciplined fight of his career.... On the other hand, Foreman was 256 pounds and somewhat slow as a snail in that PPV event.... Foreman was strong and game all through, but too damn slow at age 44 to chase the much more spry Morrison on that night.... MR.BILL:bbb
That new found discipline lasted all of one fight for Tommy. In close to his next fight Morrison steamed out all gung ho with no respect for his man and got iced in one by Michael Bentt. I'm guessing this version of Morrison is the one Foreman was expecting/hoping to get.
Foreman expected Morrison to rumble and eventually stand and trade leather.... Morrison never stopped moving on Foreman... Morrison was very respectful of Foreman.... Morrison boxed the fight of his life that night..... MR.BILL:bbb
