McCall had a titanium chin. Just standing there with his hands down taking flush shots from Lennox Lewis without flinching. I think he had a better chin than Chuvalo.

McCall had been in drug rehab at one point i heard he was in a crack house, they released him from drug rehab to fight Lewis which is pretty shameful the man clearly wasn't mentally fit to fight.

I like Lewis but I don't really count this as getting "revenge" so to speak McCall shouldn't of been in the ring.

Yeah. McCall threw a Christmas tree in a hotel lobby and they thought it'd be fine to put him in the ring. Just another tale of why Don King should be in prison.

I suspect that Lewis might have eased up, and played the mathematical stoppage game latterly.

    He seems to be thinking:

"Holy ****, this guy shouldn't be in the ring. If I pepper him with enough unanswered slaps, then the fight gets stopped on the arithmetic."

So, not only was Lewis confronted with a 17 stone guy who had already proven he could deck him, he this time had the Apocalypse Now version of said 17 stone guy, who was capable of flooring him to deal with.

I just rewatched it, and Lewis was absolutely taking it easy on McCall at the end of the fight.

He was throwing a lot of jabs to the body, against an essentially helpless opponent.

He could have gone in like he did against Ruddock or Golota.

He was playing the mathematical stoppage game.

You are basically looking at mercy there.

Obviously Lewis was merciful on him in the later rounds when he started breaking down, any decent person would, that's not the deciding factor of McCall of having a good chin. McCall took good blows while he was still trying to fight, and he was still up.

I felt the fourth was a period during which Lewis wasn't sure and still a bit suspicious of McCall. But, either way, wasn't going all in.

Round-5, it looks to me like Lewis is pulling his punches, albeit still putting enough on them to score - But, yeah, it's volume and appearances he's more interested in, by this point.

I think it was more Lewis being wary of a sucker punch than mercy of his part. IMO, he was clearly trying to damage him at the end.

One thing I feel quite sure about is, had McCall's erraticism managed to bewilder Lewis and involved a random haymaker to end it in round four or five, the 'nervous breakdown' would have probably been spun as a McCall master stroke.

    Are you kidding?

He could perhaps have killed McCall, without violating any rules.

I think, from start to finish, Lewis performed well in the McCall rematch.

There was a period leading up to the stoppage when Lewis looked like he was easing up and taking it easy on the disinterested McCall. But I think that was because he was unsure what McCall was going to do next. A case of better safe than sorry. So best be measured. He perhaps felt McCall was going to spring from helpless, defenseless fighter into a hungry attacker in the blink of an eye.

And on McCall’s reinforced steel chin. Yep, never mind being wobbled or stunned, he barely acknowledged Lewis’ pubches.

    Maybe so.

But Chuvalo was a better washerwoman.
