Cotto does better against Floyd than Margarito? Cotto probably won't last long enough to look good against Floyd. Cotto won't ever be the same. He is 27 but got beat down by a grown man like Trinidad/Vargas and won't ever be able to absorb that much punishment. He may be a better boxer because of it but a fight like that shaves fights off you're career. If somehow Cotto could outbox Margarito and fight Floyd he would have a much greater chance of being put away than Margarito. Quick counters were stunning him before what would a Margarito rematch do to him?

No way could Cotto ever do better in a Mayweather fight especially after the way he lost last night. His skills may get better but he got beat down like Vargas so expect his career to be halfway over by this point.

An all-time great big fight. Had everything.

I like watching these two smart alec looking guys in the crowd. They are wearing suits, laughing smiling, and clapping everytime Cotto lands on Margarito (he landed a lot!). I think they had money on him. They have absolutely no idea what's about to happen.

I don't think I could enjoy it the most because I really wanted Margarito to win. I was no neutral. Now I can watch the fight and appreciate it's primal beauty. Boxing is the greatest sport in the world.

all the time cotto was landing bombs on margo in the early rounds, margo was just working it to the body.

The reason why Cotto was going to the head and not the body was that he was fighting to survive, not to execute a gameplan.

That is, he was trying to make Margo respect him and not get walked through. Also, when you are on the back foot it is easier to land shots to your opponents head than to their body, as you are less far away from that target while bending backwards at the waist (think Vitali Klit's defense, the leaning back thing. It's a shorter distance to the opponent's head than to have to bend forward and go to the body while moving backward).

Cotto did everything he was able to, and he could have been gone in the 7th or 8th. There wasn't anything else he could have done, and I was surprised he lasted that long after being rocked in the 7th, I think it was.

Trinidad/Vargas was just as competitive but they almost ended the same way. To me they were the same kinda accumilated beatdowns we see in amateur tournaments or when you get thrown to the wolves for you're first sparring lesson. We knew Cotto had talent but last night was a test he failed. He finally got to fight a natural WW who is in his best years, bigger, older and just as comfortable at WW than Cotto was. This is why Floyd is retired. He knows fights like this will cut his career short anyways so why fight these type of guys when they are steaming hot?

Would you dive right into a steamy baked potatoe? You couldn't enjoy a steamy baked potatoe so that's why Floyd is gonna let the stars of the division wear eachother out for the homecoming. Mayweather couldn't ever enjoy a Margarito victory anytime soon because even if he won he would get worn down and wouldn't look so pretty in winning.
