A couple of buddies of mine who know I'm a big boxing fan invited to watch the UFC 111 event tonight.. and I decided to go see what all the fuss was about.

So after my first time seriously watching UFC here are my thoughts... If I sound ignorant.. well I am so blow me :D

I didn't see the whole card so off what I did catch:

    Fitch-Saudners
They need to make Fitch's nickname "ugly" because that dude fights and dominates in the ugliest way possible. But I was a fan of the style, just relentless.. I thought Saunders really shot himself in the fight.. he didn't try and use that great reach advantage and was enthusiastically going for grapples where he wasn't as good and those long limbs were being used against him. I was annoyed people were booing.. me a boxing fan annoyed at the UFC fans live at the event :nut. That ref seemed like he was being influenced by the crowd.. a bit unprofessional.

    Bocek-Miller
Wow after a that action I can see what the excitement is over "two men rolling around on the floor like homos".:good I was entertained. Great fight.

    Mir-Gorilla Hands
I was a bit skeptical at first.. I was looking at both of these guys bodies and I just internally shook my head and thought to my self "weight lifters :-(" But then....Did I just see that? 5 uppercuts landed clean and thrown beautifully.. in a row? From a fight in UFC? From HW's??? All HW boxers need to take notes. Never let it be said that these dudes don't know how to throw punches. Aside from the obvious power Gorilla Hands carries I was impressed with his technique. I will be watching Lesnar-Gorilla Hands.. count on it.

    GSP-Hardy
I really don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said. The word that encapulates this fight between these guys for me was.. character. and they both showed it in two different ways. GSP with his machine-like dominance, consistency and obvious superior preparation. And Hardy with his Willpower. To make the boxing comparisons Hardy showed flashes of Pryor in that prefight introduction and some of Mayorgas bravado... but the man backed up that talk and posturing with action. Respect.. to me even though he got completely dominated he stole the show.

I do have one negative judgement. That fight with Palhares vs Drwal. **** Palhares. That represented a lot of what I had biased against the sport. Drwal trips his opponent takes advantage puts him in submission.. makes him tap but then keeps pulling and you could practically see and hear those tendons just ripping off his knee.. along with the mans career. All that training for nothing just to slip on the canvas and then get your career destroyed by a ****ing piece of **** of a fighter. Hell any fatass couchpotatoe playing his Wii could be put in the ring and have that happen. A damn shame and really reminded me of why I will never see this sport like I do boxing.

All in all definitely became a fan of UFC after tonight.

How does someone lost every second of every round and steal the show? Sure, if he actually had some offensive spurts here and there but he couldn't do a thing. Sure, credit for not tapping out, but that's where it ends. He got humiliated straight up, especially considering all the disrespect he was spitting at GSP before the fight

Because the crowd pleasing things in a fight are fire, agression, heart and willpower and the man displayed it along with bravado and charisma. He really couldn't display much aggression because he was just getting utterly outtechniqued and dominated but all the other categories he showed up with. All together they make up a "show" and thats why he stole it.

    Boxing comparison would be Augustus-Mayweather

the whole disrespect thing isnt personal, do u think GSP and hardy dont know that ?

its to sell a fight as much as poss, hardy had to open his mouth for people to even take notice... its a good job he has his mouth and character after tonight, fitch was soon forgotten about after GSP done that to him, fighting GSP just aint good for peoples careers... unless your called penn of course

I'll give him heart yes, willpower? Ok, but aggression wasn't effective in the least. You could see him mentally being broke down from rounds 2 and on. He looked like he was just trying to survive and in the corner he looked like he had totally lost faith. He isn't walking away from this fight a better fighter or his market value increased at all. It's not one of those fights that his career will be elevated from, even in a losing effort. I mean he did NOTHING, but survive. He had zero offense.

Respect for not tapping but all he proved was that he was tough, which everyone already knows.

I agree with that guy Palhares being a bad sportsman. But in this sport, karma comes around every month or so. Lets see Silva tap that ass. Id actually like to see GSP against him.

Hardy forever has my respect. He nearly had his arms torn off.

With the GSP-Hardy fight I thought GSP's gameplan was to break one of Hardy's limbs in each round or so, and then when it came to the 5th Hardy's corner would just carry his broken body into the centre of the ring with instructions to bite GSP's legs off.

Hardy showed real balls in that fight. He doesn't have the skills to hang with the elite but he's got a ton of heart. Really respect the guy.

I disagree that this fight showed he didn't have the skills to hang with the elite. His loss wasn't worse than Penn's or Alves' and it was clearly better than Fitch's. Just because GSP can easily take you down and hold you down doesn't mean you aren't a top 10 WW.

I would like to see him in against a top WW striker next, just to test his chops standing. Let's see him fight Alves (God willing Alves recovers) next to give him a chance to get right back into the mix. If not Alves maybe Anthony Johnson. Both are coming off losses and both looked like they might have a spot near the top before those losses.

Okay, he didn't show us that he didn't have the skills to hang with the other guys in the division (since most fighters look **** and bereft of ideas against GSP), but he didn't show us that he could either. I never saw the GSP-Fitch fight, but I did see the GSP-Alves fight and I think that Alves at least landed some kicks in that one (**** all in the grand scheme of things, but at least he landed a couple - whereas I can't remember Hardy landing much of anything). And don't you think Fitch would just take down Hardy at will, just like GSP did? (It might take a bit longer than a micro second, but I think he'd do it each time he tried)
