To be fair, we did manage to eventually round those guys up and get their straightjackets back on.

Anybody can look good when the guy in front of them is cringing in fear.

He normally is more cautious, but that night I think he sensed that Kirk was out of shape, unprepared and couldnt hurt him. He went in for the kill and gave a hell of a performance.

Three words sum up this fight, and in fact all of Vitali's "amazing stats" as well.

    QUALITY OF OPPOSITION.

It's what you do against the elite that sets you apart. Plenty of journeymen have great win-loss & KO stats and impressive one-off wins, eg Faruq Saleem, Tye Fields etc. But they are judged on what happens when they step up to the elite not what they did against sub-standard, shot or overweight opponents.

A lot of people would have looked really good against Kirk Johnson that night.

Vlad maybe more skilled, but Vitali was much more powerful. Vlad could have never done what Vitali did to Sanders or Lennox. And Peter would have never done to Vitali what he was able to try on Vlad.

Vitali had great reflexes and to move a body of that size at such speed was unbelievable. And no matter how bad or good, depends on your own personal view, is Corrie Sanders, Vitali showed an unbelievable amount of stamina against him. Name me some boxers that have the ability to go that long punching something, not too mention a risky boxer like Sanders. Most boxers would die out and continue a slow pace after like round 4, Vitali went strong all 8 rounds. He was a great boxer.

Rahman (who Vitali "retired" rather than facing.. :D) went toe-to-toe with PRIME Sanders, not the inactive 38 year old version that Vitali faced.

And Rahman stopped him quicker than Vitali.

    :deal

    Over to you, fanboys.
    :hi:

    Let the games begin! :yep

I was a Viatli fan for awhile, at one time he could do no wrong in my eyes. After the Bryd fight he proved how much heart he really has, his wars with Sanders and Lewis were some of the best brawls I seen live at the Heavyweight level. His chin was granite, his power was tops at the time, great stamina for a big man, good defensive skills at times, very tough fighter.

His recent battles with his training camp has pissed me off for the last 3 years, he is part of the reason the WBC is in shambles. He held the title hostage from late 04 to late 05, his comback attempts screwed certain fighters as well, and the heavyweight boxing fans alike. I lost alot of respect for him over the years, but I will never forget his willingness to give the fans what they wanted in the ring.

Vitali did more work in his fight than Rahman did in his, and Sanders might have been shy of some years, but he had much more heart in the Vitali fight. Like I said, it could have been just the plain air that VItali was swinging at, it didnt have to be Sanders, but that was a lot of work which proved to me that he had unbelievable amount of stamina.

And do you honestly believe that one Vitali was a bullshiter to lie about his health and not fight Rahman? He was way too modest I think. And I met him once and got to speak with both of the brothers, they are not bullshiters.

Or, do you truly believe that Vitali was scarred? Remember that Lewis was much stronger, and Vitali was almost crying like a baby why wont they give him Lennox. Remember in one of his fights that was pre-Lennox, he turns to the TV and sais "I know you saw this fight Lennox." Vitali was no woos. But he was smart. His, and Wlads also, long time and very close friendship with Muhammad Ali probably thought him that health is not something to **** around with.

Thats only my view, I truly doubt that he was scarred of Rahman.

Johnson was a blob, and I've never been convinced by him ever since that diabolical performance against Ruiz.

But Vitali did as he was meant to, beat him up good and looked like quality doing it. I think it's a good win for him.

He put kirk down with back of the head shots, in the end kirk took a dive to not get hit, he quit. Dont forget how unbelievably fat he was, wasnt it wally mathews that said afterwads that he thought there was a law against pregnant women boxing.

    :huh
Do you have stats to back that up?

    How do you figure that?
Sanders was prime and on course for a title shot before the Rahman fight.
Before the Vitali fight, he had already retired once and only came out of retirement for the payday against Wlad. He was not that bothered about boxing and had his semi-pro golf career and his real estate investments to fall back on when he fought Vitali.

8 rounds is "unbelieveable"? You must have lower standards than me. :yep

No, I believe he was injured. But the fact is that it was a "career ending injury" while Rahman was mandatory/champ, then it miraculously cleared up once Rahman was out of the picture.

Form your own opinions about that. :hey
