Head to head, he was the best on the planet at that time, and probably made up Lennox's mind for him.

However, prime Lennox prevails over that Vitali or any other version we've seen so far.

    Re: Vitali v Wlad:

Wlad is the better boxer, but those intangibles kick in and prevent Wlad from winning this very hypotheticl match-up.

You said that without making yourself look like a hater, and even giving Vitali props...

    Good post :D

You make good points, and of course now one can truly determine that about 'neart' and 'will.' And I dont have stats, although I would like to find the stats for both Rahman and Vitali fights against Sanders. But I seen both fights and and Vitali seemed to be throwing much more than I ever remembered, and more than Rahman. Plus, I never seen Vitali this tired as after the 8th round with Sanders.

And dont get me wrong, I was shocked that he quit, and then shocked that he came back. Character-like, he seems like a guy who sticks to his word, but I guess my countries corrupt politics showed him that politics in boxing are in no comparison, and its better to return. Unfortunately he got hit again, but who knows maybe he will make it this time, I surely believe so, he overtrains. Many boxers, like Kirk undertrain, he overtrains. I greatly doubt that Rahman scarred him or was someone that he didnt want to fight. The fact that Rahman once KOed Lennox was more than enough reason for Vitali to want him. But no, I dont agree that Vitali came back because Rahman is out of the pic, or left because Rahman was in the pic.

Prime Lennox was stronger than Vitali, and even more skilled.

Wlad is a better boxer now than ever before, but I am not too sure if he was better skilled than prime Vitali. The moves he showed, the action and reaction, and boxing skills in general against Lennox, Kirk, Sanders ... I dont really see in Wlad right now. ANd if Wlad is better skilled than Vitali ever was, thats because he is much more careful and less interesting. I found Vitali's fights more fun and his moves more riskier.

Vitali has a granite chin though and Lennox does not so that will keep him in the game.
The same intangibles that makes Vitali a favourite over Wlad work for him against Lewis too ... doesnt make him a favourite but definitely dangerous.
