Out boxers aren't reflex fighters. RJJ and Ali were reflex fighters, Larry Holmes was an out boxer. Once his reflexes faded RJJ faded.
You're original comment was "33 isn't that old , especially for a slugger." Your definitions of "slugger" are suspect to say the least. You've deflected by putting emphasis on "reflex fighters" of whom are an extremely rare breed comparative to to others. Lets look at one common definition of "slugger" - A Slugger throws powerful punches with the goal of knocking an opponent out as quickly as possible. Fighters who choose the slugging style don't use a lot of footwork and tend not to move around the ring too much. They prefer an aggressive attack that puts constant pressure on an opponent. That's not Liston at all. Liston was a genuine boxer/puncher. Slugger is more akin to your "swarmer" who age quite quickly on the whole. Regardless everyone is different, sometimes due to genetics sometimes due to lifestyle, sometimes due to god only knows what. It feels like you are just making it up as you go along.
he look very old. look 50 with Chuck Wepner & Wepner himself said it. Wepner not actually looked young either!
What is the basis of him being likely 33 or 34? He sure didn't look that age to me, and the most reliable of sources, (the doctor's who examined him) estimated he was 38-41.
So the census of 1940 when they had him at 10 years old they confused him with a young man that would have been about 20?!
They very well may have confused him for somebody else. Liston had TWENTY-FIVE siblings. I'd honestly be surprised if they DIDN'T get something wrong.
document cannot give answer Sonny Liston age. he is nobody before boxing. no one care his age or name . & when he start boxing there is dispute & where he started
