All of the Marquez fans claim he was robbed, so I'm scoring the fight. 1: John (close) 2: Marquez 3: John 4: Marquez (close) 5: Marquez 6: Marquez 7: John (close) 8: Marquez 9: Marquez 10: Draw 9-9 (low blow) 11: John 10-8 (low blow) 12: John 10-9 Draw 113-113. This was by no means a robbery. EVery round except 8, 9, 11, and 12 was really damn close in my eyes and since Marquez got a point deduction in the 10th, that could've been an easy 10-8 round for John. Nobody should be claiming robbery in my opinion. Marquez could've won as could have John. Let me just say, Marquez did everything wrong in this fight. He did connect with quite a few low blows. He did not pressure John like he should have. He probably could have KO'd him. This was a very tough fight to score because it was boring as hell. Tactical boxing and neither fighter looked the least bit tired. It's on Youtube if anyone wants to score. Thoughts?
I've rarely seen a fighter deducted two points for low blows. I thought it was close but clear for JMM. My old scorecard is on my old computer.
Definitely strange because Marquez got deducted, did it again with no deduction, then did it again with a deduction. There is no argument that he shouldn't have been deducted, however, maybe only once instead of twice. I can see a John win or Marquez win but the robbery cries are outlandish. But, those judges scorecards were pretty outlandish as well.
If I score a fight one way and the judges score it another, I consider it a bad decision. Otherwise there's no point in having scores. I thought it was clear enough Marquez landed the harder shots in a majority of rounds. John kept pulling away and JMM's shots went low, it's happened before, but 2 points was definitely egregious. I know the point of your thread is to discuss the scoring round by round so I'll hold my thoughts until I score it again and back up my position. Maybe this weekend.
I've been saying it forever... Marquez kills guys that come straight forward, otherwise he looks average against another counter-puncher. Biggest proof is his fight against Floyd, the best counterpuncher around. He probably only hit Floyd cleanly TWICE the entire 12 rounds.
The point deduction in the 10th was actually above the belt, a legit blow. Seconds later Marquez got warned for a blow that was at the belt, maybe so slightly below, but it did'tn hurt John, it was'nt on the balls. The 2nd point deduction came at the start of the 11th, the punch landed in the opper part of the beltline, the beltline is considered part of the body. A low blow is when it falls below the belt. Marquez landed some hip shots when John was pulling out, but both point deductions were for blows that were legal.
I recently watched it in response to a thread about Chris John from a few weeks back or so. 115-111 John was my most recent score. 7-5 in rounds not considering the point deductions. In the past, I have come up with 114-112 John and 113-113 draw. It is an okay fight in terms of entertainment, a good fight in terms of skill, a big fight in terms of relevance, and ultimately a very close fight.
you know my friend who shall remain nameless is apart of an aussie up and comers fight team and he mentioned that when said fighter sparred with chris john they admitted to using dirty tactics against marquez they organised to pick him up from the aiport and they drove him around and stalled for ages in a hot ass van with no aircon (and i cant remember if he said this but i recall something about the hotel he stayed at being disgraceful)
