Watching Ortiz vs Maidana again...

I was live at this fight, on the floor.
You could hear the punches well, they were beating the **** out of each other.
Exciting fight.

 

It was my FOTY up to the Williams vs Martinez fight.

Ortiz's inexperience and offensive demenaor did him in.

 

side note... I stood next to mosley/vargas/de la hoya
lampley walked by.

None of those boxers are very big, except vargas looked about 200lbs.

 

Lucky git! I was streaming the damn thing off my lap top Even then I still enjoyed it.

The best moment in the fight was the first round...Maidana is knocked down, and what's the first thing he does when he gets back up? He puts Ortiz on his ass with the next punch! Awsome stuff.

Ortiz could have, and should have won that fight. He should have boxed more, and kept that left hand up. Maidana was having a field day landing that right hand of his.

 

What became apparent in that fight is that a) Ortiz doesn't see punches coming very well/has poor reflexes and b) Ortiz moves back in straight lines. I think these two factors are ultimately going limit his success in the future.

 

Ortiz is kinda having a lot of pressure on him to look good and do well. Goldenboy clearly thinks he has a huge future.

 

Ortiz could have very easily won this fight but got lured into a brawl and wanted to prove he could knock Maidana out. It was one of the worst displays of ring smarts I've ever seen.

 

ortiz had all the tools to win but he lacks/lacked the heart.

Ortiz is skilled he just fought the dumbest fight in recent memory. His skills aren't the problem it's his heart and ring IQ that should be questioned.

 

His corner repeatedly telling him to keep the fight in close didn't help either. Hard to box and move if you're in the pocket.

 

theres been alot of maidana fights posted on youtube recently and having watched them all yesterday i can say for sure he's got more skills than people giv him credit for

 

I would expect him to be huge dude was on the juice.
We met Zab in south beach at a crap game on the street my boy told me he think he can take zab being a lil cat.

20 minutes later Zab dropped a dude with a Jab.
