I think Selby will fight differently when he fights someone whose power he respects. I bet Hearn is itching to take him down the IBF route. I'd fancy him against Billy Dib in an eliminator and reckon he could outman that Russian-Mexican!
Ideally I'd like to see him get revenge over Samir and then move on to Euro level against Miskirtchin
Can't remember who he fought exactly, but Billy Dibb put on one of the funniest performances I've seen from a pro a little while back. Prancing around like RJJ with nothing to back it up! There's gonna be another manager-promoter discussion for Hearn to do over Selby. Sanigar still favours the slowly-slowly approach while Hearn was chomping, particularly the way in which he has the IBF in his pocket if the Purdy situation is anything to go by. The Sanigars always said they were trying to fly Sleby under the radar and they've outdone themselves as nobody still knows who he is in Wales! So can understand Hearn wanted to get him into some profile fights but avenging the loss would be good. This June show in Cardiff is going to be an interesting sell to see what route they go down, paired with Rees's fight
i think you are yes. he looks the business. i cant quite get my head around why his ko ratio is so low though. every fight ive seen him in he has amazing range of shots with good placement and quite heavy. maybe he wasnt taking it seriously before. what was him amateur record like?
His amateur record isn't comaprable to his brother's and he only really got his head down once Borg got hold of him as a pro. Since then he has gradually thickened out at the weight and is now extremely solid there, carrying power with both hands to go with the natural ability.
It will take paying him well over the going rate to get him back in the ring with Selby. Which is fair enough when it will be just to take a hiding before the belt becomes vacant anyway. Selby shouldn't have got in the ring in the first fight considering the state he was in health-wise and it's cost him a silly blip on his record.
USA rob What's the problem with wanting to win the Lonsdale belt outright Not only is it prestigious but it is a Mark that you have beaten all the domestic rivals
I get that it's prestigious and the belt looks nice etc. but for fighters that have any kind of aspirations beyond British level its important for them to continually move forward by fighting progressively better opposition that fight different styles. Hanging around at domestic level for 4 fights when you don't have is not good. Smith beat Simpson, Simpson beat Lindsay. Why would you fight someone thats lost to a guy you just stopped? Selbys last 5 opponents have got progressively worse each time he has fought, how is that good for him? He needs to step up not step backwards. Is there much of a difference between Smith, Simpson & Lindsay in terms of style? Would be better of fighting tough mexicans that he will encounter at world level.
Fair comments,if you are looking long term maybe sacrifice short term I'm proud of the lonsdales heritage though something the Americans havnt got is a respected national title
The bbboc should just give selby a special lonsdale belt for keeps the way the alphabet boys do for outstanding champions. I reckon it should look like a typical lonsdale strap but with a big diamond encrusted G in the middle of it. Would look well smart. As long as he don't take it to the Mayweather gym and have all those fake g's try and get they're stinking mists on it.
