His nom de guerre was slightly ironic at times but nowhere near as ironic as some on here would have you believe...Its like lots of things, people say it often enough and it becomes accepted wisdom...A near ten year unbeaten run shouldn't be sniffed at.
In his column a few weeks ago he did a piece where he disagreed with Barney Francis about the criticisms Barney had made about boxing recently.I don`t think it`s smart to bite the hand that feeds in a national newspaper,Head Boy Eddie Hearn certainly wouldn't.I can see Wazza trying other options if he can, like 5 or his own ppv channel.
Johnny wasn't that bad in his later years but I don't think he ever was fully forgiven for the De Leon "fight".
Yeah, he did have a wee pop and it isnt too clever to do that. Francis said in an interview with Boxing Monthly a few months ago that boxing is a difficult sport to manage, especially considering how small it is to the overall portfolio of sport on Sky, and in the case of Wazza he has someone who is probably not the easiest to get along with, especially when trying to change things.
If Channel 5 do show more fights I hope they do it on a fight by fight basis and hand pick the best ones instead of giving a promoter a deal. Good to see Wazza and the WBO being called out for some of the **** world title fights they have allowed this year.
It's not as though Nelson forgot he held the WBO belt. The fact he's a former champion gives his concerns more credibility. Warrrens weekly kick just brings it up when he would be better just to let it lie.
Khan v ***in was the worst and say thanks to frank for that. Haye delivered the biggest payday but also the biggest backlash! It's bout keeping the paying customer happy not smash and grabbing. That's why ufc works mate cos the cards are stacked incase the headline fails. Frank puts one 50-50 and the others are biased. He's a ****ing savage the frog-eyed ******* him. @ roe aswell as ice. Haye has fought absolute tripe on ppv since he left setanta. The Harrison fight was the worst I've seen! Haye has hurt the casuals more than frank has imo. Cranks just done it on a longer period and with different faces but not one of his fighters have hurt boxing more than Haye has, all imo of course.
Totally mate especially when he gas summat dodgy on his show like. All you get his silence and maybe a small piece on his article. The fact every promoters surname isn't banned bar his just goes to lament how right we all are. Oh an good look for prizefighter
We would all be better off without fwank ******. He is the the first promoter to put domestic boxing on PPV! His WBO champ cards have been a joke for years and he's been getting away with it. Not any more. **** off fwank go peddle your wank elsewhere
Im glad Sky have taken this step. I dont think a lot of people have the money to pay for these PPVs. With money tight in most peoples houses it means that the extra expense of a PPV is a no go. The numbers must have dropped a lot for Sky to take this step. Also none of ******s fighters are PPV standard in my view.
Interesting stuff. Especially considering that Nelson was a WBO champ. There is no doubt that the WBO is probably the most bogus, only because it is so evident that ****** and Arum control them whenever they want.
I seem to remember the 2nd Eubank-Watson fight being for the vacant title when all things considered, the two of them happened to move up to 168 and neither of them were ranked 1 or 2 with the WBO at that time. Hearn worked something.
There's definitely a fall out on the cards. I can see that this move makes most sense for all parties. ****** is in a bit of a mess at the minute - he's got these ridiculous deals with the last set of Olympians that he can't realistically finance without PPV revenue, but he can't really market them as he'd like as a result. It all adds up to a big faux pas, he's not been helped by the backlash from the public towards Sky with the Haye/Harrison debacle and several soft Khan cards going onto PPV..... as a result Allegedly has to conjure up something different or he's ****ed. It's definitely a gamble, but I suppose Sky won't need their share of the profits and any advertising revenue from the channel would be his. It's a throw of the dice but he's obviously not daft, switching over the likes of Smith to his two lads who are going to get SFN dates. The biggest problem is that both of them seem to be cut from the same cloth, I was talking to Ian on Boxrec about a Twitter war between Glyn Leach (editor of BM for those who don't know) and the youngest Allegedly jr, about libellous comments Leach was alleged to have made about the Cook farce. I'm not sure what will happen to the next lot of amateurs but it certainly seems Sky aren't prepared to back these things any longer, which is absolutely correct. The whole thing has been an unqualified disaster. They've all been too inactive, kept too far away from the general public and in DeGale's case, been beaten already. If boxing is taken to the masses and a quality product delivered, people WILL watch. Three million viewers for a HW title fight between two people who most will never have heard of is excellent. The problem is maintaining that level of product throughout the other weight divisions on a regular basis. I'm confident that with a few tweaks, less titles and more co-operation between promoters being the main two, that this can be achieved.
