Some time ago, the WBA made a reform for the world belts. They closed the interim belt and the gold belt was downgraded in status. In their new ranking, cruiserweight gold champion Firat Arslan is listed as world champion. Not so with holders of the same belt in other categories. And in super lightweight we again have a interim champion - Ismael Barroso.
The "Super Champ" idea would actually been a marginal reform if it didn't come with an additional belt split. The idea that a champion recognized by other sanctioning bodies should be given more leeway in fighting the WBAs contenders in the hopes of getting an undisputed champion is a good idea. It coming with a 2nd tier champion just feels like a trojan horse where you disguise something don't want with something people do. But hey I guess you could wrap your head around the regular champ as a permanent interim champ of sorts so you don't have to make an interim belt. Okay. I don't even understand what Gold and Silver champs even mean. After Super and Regular I'm done. Like is Gold your third most prestigious belt? Shouldn't it be called bronze then? I'm so confused.
