Without any follow up investigation has even taken place, both the WBA and WBC already stated that they fully believe Canelo is innocent. Which is a far cry from other boxers that tested positive leading up to a fight, and raises quite a number of questions. At least Sulaiman tries to keep up appearances.
Not a surprise different rules for cash cows like Canelo and Mayweather. Canelo will now forever be tarnished but that won't prevent the business of boxing from sweeping this under the carpet, we have seen it enough times before with Mayweather, RJJ, Holyfield etc.
Well that is reassuring, you wouldn't expect any corruption from those organisations, they have a good clean history.
Disgusting, but not shocking. Bob Bennett will be next to clear Clenelo of everything like he did with Mayweather.
Not condoning Pov's repeat offense, just scoffing at the laughable hypocrisy and double standards on display. Pov's first failed test in early May '16 (one week before the Wilder fight) had plausible deniability, in that it was possible that the trace of meldonium was residual amounts from before he substance was banned. Despite this the title fight was immediately called off and Povetkin was later cleared. Canelo also has the plausible deniability of the tainted meat line and the organisations lap it up no problem. I wonder if that has anything to do with the ridiculously lucrative Cinco De mayo rematch on the line... As PaddyGarcia said, it's a joke.
Same with BBBC and Tyson Fury. WBC and Luis Nery. It would actually be weird if he got punished in any way, haha!
The real question here is not is Clenelo juicing, it's why did they slip up this time and not in the first fight against GGG when out of nowhere he suddenly sported a physique that would make the Incredible Hulk envious? This might seem like a difficult question to answer for some but it's actually very simple. The reason he popped dirty this time and not in the first fight is because they'd obviously increased the dose as the one they had him on for the first fight clearly wasn't enough. I've seen a lot of people calling for a lifetime ban from the sport for Clenelo but that's harsh IMO. I think a 2 year ban and a $750,000 fine (the vast majority of which should go directly to GGG) would be sufficient punishment. Obviously he needs to agree to undergo the strictest possible testing procedures when he returns from his ban though - I think a 2 year probation period where he is subjected to random year round VADA testing would be fitting.
Fury situation was different they tried to ban him, sidelined him for 2 years or so. But the poor handling of it by UKAD and the difficulty of proving nandrolone use made it hard for them. Even if Canelo is charged like Fury was he'll just get a 6 month ban as US suspensions are a joke.
